1. I jump a 7-cell spectre and its a great little canopy. its easier to pack because you only have to be able to count the 8 instead of 10. But seriously it opens sweet and on heading better than the other canopoies I have jumped. Is there a good reason to get a 7-cell spectre vs a 9-cell pilot or such like?? Dunno go and test them as see which you prefer. jezz "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers

3. Not sure if this is a help or a hinderance but you can do everything right, The student can do all the PRCP's right and still go totally unstable when told to pull for themselves. I had this problem when I started eventually it put me in hospital on jump 19 and when I came back I did AFF. I still think that if it were not for AFF I might not be skydiving today. So I suppose everynow and again you will get a student who just cannot overcome sensory overload. I am sure this student will get over it but some will not. Keep up the good work Jezz "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
4. Sure your post did make me re-assess as to the outcome time will tell. Thanks for the concern. Do the perceived risks out wieght the percieved gain? Only I know Do I really have enough experince to even know the risks? Well although jump numbers are important(there is no substitute) so is time in the sport and I have lots of that. Seeing people break themselves, knowing people who have died, and listerning to tons of people on the risks, techniques and dangers must count for something in the assessment of risk sphere Jezz "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
5. Spectre 150 sub-terminal you actually have to look up to makes sure it is doing something Jezz "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
6. I am happy landing crosswind or downwind as the need arises. At the moment I would not try anything other than a staight in approach in conditions that are less than ideal. My jump numbers are not indicative of currency. I did my first jump June 1995 did 109 between 1995-1999 Stopped restarted Mar 2004 and have done 138 since with atleast 100 on my current canopy which I have had for just over six months. 7. I am just starting to learn how to swoop my landings. I have a few questions, my currrent approach is this, Double fronts, to 90 degree frontriser/harness carve, back to Double fronts, My qustion is is this an efficient way into swooping. My plan will be to take the 90 degree carve progressively lower until the third stage will be skipped, At the moment I do it planty high enough that I still have to hang on the risers for a fair while, Would I be better off just doing double front appraoches or does putting in a carve help to increase the speed which can then be maintained by a double front riser dive Comments suggestions appreciated. 8. New wave ground rush a thing or stupidity and beauty. I have experienced it twice, and no I am not intentionally doing HP landing one was many years ago with about 60 jumps thought a nice fat hook turn would be cool, did it too high so did a front riser s-turns, had to dig so hard I landed hands first, and got away with it. Second time was even more stupid, it was about 30 jumps ago, I thought I looked a bit low but decided i could carve a 180 front safely(should have flat turned based on sight picture) anyway that one I did not have to dig out but was lower than I am ready for, Before anyone goes off on one, I am not intentionally doing HP landings yet and when I do start it will be with 90's not 180's. I just have a brain fart every now and again. Jezz "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
9. Gary may just need to uninstall and re-install the driver software, or look for updated drivers. What service pack have you got installed? Here is a link describing your problem, and a fix which worked for them http://listserv.uark.edu/scripts/wa.exe?A2=ind0201a&L=direct-l&F=&S=&P=4656 Jezz "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
10. Ok so I have searched the post asked opinions read all about it and came to the conclusion there is no universal decision. This poll is purely for camera fliers using a sidemounted video camera, (still /or not) to do tandem videos they are paid for. This way I will get an idea as to what to do. I want to see what is actually happening in skydiving rather that discussing the pro's and con's at infinitum If this is a re post please point me to the original Regards Jezz "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
11. Would it not be possible to just use a standard expert cypress 2 pin that cuts the loops as the real problem is downward speed eventually ONe could set it like doing a high DZ jump so it would fire early? I am not sure the amount of cable on the current 2 pin system but it could work. Quetion though, could g forces achieved under a canopy kill one on there own? Just a thinking aloud Jezz "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
12. Sorry JP, Thanks for the advise "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
13. Paul What lens would you recommend? Thanks Jezz "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
14. Lew thanks for the time you took to write such a complete repsonse, I have saved it as a word doc for future ref. The vignetting only shows up on a PC not on the TV but the corner of the helmet does, I have bumped in the zoom to remove both of these and will see how it goes. Thanks again Jezz "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
15.
I hardly ever look at my alti in freefall when I am videoing tandems. if I do, I bring my hand in front of me enough to be able to glance at it without having to move my head. That's why I have 2 altis in my helmet too.. So there is less to worry about.
Thats what I was thinking so when I get the money might need to get another audible. 16. Just an aside, when shooting video do you ever check your visual alti and how do you do that without moving your head, My vid has some horrid head movements but as said before this dive was al about being safe, not getting great vid. Thanks Jezz "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
17. Finally got a few screen grabs they are not great but OK First comment I was not aligned to the sun so the lighting is all wrong. Otherwise comments welcomed Shot with a 0.43 kenko lens As a video as a whole it is a bit up and down but there are a few good moments a lot of practice and I think I'll get there Awaiting delivery of my ring sight which I hope will help with framing Jezz "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
18. If you want maximum safty without the risk of the visor being damaged use a full face with the visor removed then just a pair of goggles\sunnies I have seen this done a lot and think it should work. Have not tried it Jezz "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
19. For the benefit of those on here in the UK, Jessops sell one on there website http://www.jessops.com/search/viewproduct.cfm?PRODUCT=RAYRA3725&BRAND=COK,HAM,HAS,HOY,JES,RAY&CONTINUE=false&FEATS=&FIRSTPRICE=0&KEYWORD=&LEVEL=&MODELNUMBER=&NEWQUERY=True&NODE=437&ORD=ASC&ORDERBY=&QUANTITY=10&RECENT=0&REFINE=&SEARCH_FOR=&SEARCHNODE=0&SEARCHURL=dointellisearch.cfm&SECONDPRICE=999999&SHOWCASEID=&STARTROW=41&SUBS=&WORD_SEARCH=N& It is plastic I have done a few jumps with one with a kenko .043 lens and it has not fallen off, but hey I jump a spectre but i think it should be ok strength wise Jezz "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
20. Question at the moment my camera picks up a very slight section of my helmet I was thinking that if I just bump in the zoom a touch it will fix that and give me a small amount more room to work with ie I can still get a picture from a little further away.. Is that a feasible solution. As for having to fly close to the tandem with my current lens I kind of like that as it should be easy to get a feel for the distance. Not that it will be easy to stay totally constant at it thats where the practice comes in. So I am now thinking stick with the current lens and just get the desired result by flying it right. My lens has a slight fish eye effect, is this desirable for tandem or a real no-no? It is a kenko 0.43 semi-fish eye Would I be better with an lens that does not distort? Or is it personal preference Jezz "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
21. Just checking anyway , It is still a bit misleading, but thanks for clearing that up jezz "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
22. Some cool pic from the Langar Boogie, now avialable on www.atmonauti.com If you have a look at them and still call it tracking well Jezz "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
23. This weekend had my first opportunity to go out with a tandem and video. Purely for my own experience. My main goal was just to fly relative with the tandem and be safe. If I got anything on video that was a bonus. In that regard I had the student in frame the whole dive, but with my setup I cut the instructor out quite a lot. Lot looking up steep enough or maybe a bit low on the whole thing talking a foot or 2 max. My setup is a 2K FFX side mount, I have just ordered a ring sight I was using a sticker in my goggles but to be fair not even trying to hard to sight the tandem, just fly with it. I am also using a 0.43 Kenko and after reading some post think I ought to go to a 0.5 or even no lens?? if I want to do decent tandem, I was flying extremely close to the tandem the instructor kept telling me to come closer he told me afterwards that he wanted to dock me. I got some nice footage and I guess with a whole lot more it can only get better. I was really stoked and am now going to put in a big effort to get good enough to make a sellable product. Still need loads of skills and also some basic editing tips. With regard to that my current camera has very few effect, and I cannot afford a PC so was wondering about getting an editing board, I want to be able to add titles, music and also do a cross fade ( I want that alti shot), thats all I think is required to make a nicely edited vid. Any suggestions on suitable pieces of kit Just thought I would share my stoke and get some useful tips. Any comments welcome Before anyone goes off on my jump numbers the TI knows me and it was a perfectly safe jump, and fun. I have done around 120 jumps since March 04 "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
24. Please tell me you are missing a 0 63 swoop jumps then a VX89 I sure as heck hope not, also it is not merely an elliptical but cross braced so a whole different ball game, jezz "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
25. I am off to empuria for christmas hopefully there will be some angled flight there, Trying to get a few people involved at Hinton, I did some jumps with Marco and Gi at Langar and am stoked on Atmonauti Jezz "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
