  1. I have recently started to get invloved with tracking dives. yesterday I was doing a solo practicing barrel rolls the thing is sometimes I would stay on heading other times turn during the roll and come out off heading, I am initiating the barrel roll with my shoulders does anyone have any good tips for getting a super consistent on heading barrel roll?? I could really do with being able to do them so I can clear airspace above me on big tracking dives instead of relying on the people above me to stay clear. Thanks "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
  2. A totally Bias opinion I think spectre's are great, I jump a 150 which has about 500 jumps on it and a new line set. Its fun lands great although it took a few jumps to find the sweet spot. And for those long spots a little bit of pressure on the very lightly pressured rear risers flattens it out no end. As for packing this canopy has seen a few jumps and packs real easy, also you can get away with most things and it will open soft and on heading, provided you are not in a track or turning when you pull I have not jumped many other canopies but when its this good why would I ?? 3. If you find one let me know sounds like something I would love to do. Jeremy "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
  4. I saw an awesome sight this weekend, I have seen loads of videos on the PD website but to see it for real was amazing. 2 Guys jumping VX 79's( I think) setup top guy taps ankle on lower mans trailing edge just before initiating a 270's to swoop side by side, I know this is not exactly the most cutting edge stuff that is going on but man to see it for real was just awesome SO all you out there keep practicing because it's really impressive, but be safe. 5. 0:6:0 Best jump 17 way tracking dive almost docked the rabbit but not quite, was due to try again Sunday but wind did not play ball SWEET!!! "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
  6. I am looking to buy a Digital camcorder. YOU may have seen a few recent posts, anyway I come to the conclusion that the PC form factor is best suited to side mounting. Could anyone tell me if the UK spec PC107E is a suitable camera, I am on a rather tight budget to get a camera system but would rather buy new, if possible "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
  7. Thanks Ross I will see how responses go on here and will start to let people at Hinton know and we can see how it pans out "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
  8. This thread is only for people who are jumping at Hinton UK I am interested to find out who on DZ.com jumps at Hinton Name Preferred disciple Experience level in each discipline you still take part in If you have a complete up to date profile it should cover most of this but for ease please put it in the post The reason for this is I have set up a Yahoo group Hinton_Skydivers (if there is already an open group for all let me know and I will let this one die) To enable people to share lifts and find suitable people to jump with. Sometimes its hard to know who is who and what they do but this might help especially if it takes off and we get a big pool of people. Let me know if that would be something of interest to you, or any similair suggestions, or just join the group "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
  9. How ironic, Only this morning I saw a sight as described it was only for a slit second but required a private verbal release of disgust YUK!!,(don't worry no-one heard it) It was just some passerby I saw as I rode to work on my motorbike. Now this girl was not an elephant but and with a decent style of clothing may even have looked rather nice. It all in the wrapping so wear something appropriate girls OH and keep you underwear in in your clothes,MY pet hate is women you have their nicker sticking out, keep in covered!!!! 10. Yeah that scare you got looks real nasty, Hope you are jumping again soon. "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
  11. Anyone going to Hinton tomorrow looking to do some RW "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
  12. Wanting to get into camera flying in a few months so I am starting to look for an affordable camera set up. I know nothing about digital camcorders but was just curious is a sony DCRHC18 any good, I might want to film Tandems one day would this camera be suitable, also what is the difference between it and the HC20, I am in the UK so need advice with UK spec in mind. I am also considering getting a Headshield TOPSIDE helmet, I know its not top of the range but want something entry level in the event I decide it is not for me. Also want to be able to just have the camera on for rw\ tracking and random other jumps. What are peoples experience of these helmets Thanks "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
  13. Thats just crazy, although my brother was travelling to Langar every weekend and trained up there too but he has a car and would go onr friday come back sat. I just want to go jump for a day so the travel is not worth it. "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
  14. I live in Reading so langar is just not feasible, Also I ride a motorbike and with a rig bag 50 miles is enough. I have tended to jump at Nethers on Saturdays but they are not an all week operation, not 100% sure when they are open exactly "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
  15. Anyone going to Hinton to jump tomorrow, Weather permitting I am looking for people of similar skill or anyone who will jump with me to do a bit of RW, I have FS1. Last few times there have not been many people there doing RW. Hope someone is going to be there, solos are getting dull. "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
  16. Kirk In the UK(at least all the DZ's I have jumped at) you have to have a signed gear check before boarding the plane. This is a great policy and I am sure has prevented many no gear check related problems. I for one would not want to rely on some person randomly looking about to check. All though I am perfectly happy checking myself out I trust myself but hey everyone makes mistakes. I know it seems a pain in the neck but it takes 2 minutes and could save your life. 17. On inspection of the votes it would appear that over 80% of people set the audibles for break off or above, Am I being stupid setting mine below break off? See original post for reason. Should I change to set it for break off or above? I would value to experienced peoples input Thanks "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
  18. I am live in the UK now so was unaware of the US recommendations sounds sensible enough to me, But I am guessing once you get into formations etc you will not continue to be able to pull at 4000, worth thinking about. "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
  19. So if you have not got a good canopy at 2500 you are going to chop?? What height do you deploy? and what canopy do you jump? "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
  20. That is my sentiment exactly I am a low timer relatively I want to know that I am altitude aware without the audible, Also in the UK you have to be open by 2000 and I jump a spectre so I hear my second alarm 2500 sometime during opening. "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
  21. I am of the opinion that an audible is a backup device as such I set mine to go off 500ft below intended break off. My reasoning is that it makes me stay altitude aware with my visual alti. In the UK visual alti's are required. At the same time 500 ft low gives me enough time to still track and open in time. Typically I break at 4000. I am interested to hear what other people are doing and why. Hope this poll has not been done before. Please give a reason for which ever option you choose "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
  22. I intend to start working towards jumping with a camera with the view to doing Tandem video eventually. I will be speaking to the local videographers but value as much info as possible In the Uk there is a 200 jump minimum before you can even think of wearing a camera, so I am waiting for that anyway. What I would like to know is what skills should I work on in order to be ready to do video jumps when I get to 200, understand I do not intend nor expect to start with Tandems(thats just dumb) but I want to work on skills that will be useful for doing tandems How would you want to film the exit for say a tandem vs 4-way? Also could people recommend a decent but affordable setup that would provide a decent quality product assuming good camera work. Particularly Side vs Top for video camera? I am also interested to know which is better to start with a winged suit or just a baggy? Pro's and con's would be appreciated. I want to make sure I do all the ground work to speed up the process while keeping it all safe and being able to produce a decent product that promotes the sport. To the UK jumpers is there a minimum jump\license number required to jump relative to a tandem? Thanks in advance "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
  23. Thankss for that is is really helpful One thing I did notice Is an Opposed Stairstep = Open Accordion ?? Thanks again "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
  24. Thanks That is one cool document shold keep us busy for a while. Do you know any docs that just give the names of each position in like a table with pics? Thanks Again J "Now I know why the birds fly" Hinton Skydivers
  25. Sorry if this is a repeat post, I have done a search and did not find anything. Anyway my brother and I are starting to do some 2-way RW and I was wondering if there is a resource available that will show me all the points we could try and there associated names, would be good if they had little pictures to help. I know a few points but not that many any help would be much appreciated Also suggestions on exits would be nice, want to be aiming to aquire skills useful in 4-way Jeremy
