  1. Sell it dude! IMO, by the time your ready for that canopy there will be something new and improved your gonna want more than that Heatwave. Even if you keep it in a dark, dry closet in a plastic bag. The date of manufacture on it will make it less valuable than the price you may get to sell it now. Hope this helps
  2. NO. if your on a ZP. Most manufactures consider that to be high performance canopy for experts only. I added 25 lbs to 105 for gear and the wing load is .9/1 This wing load is not harsh for a person with 50 jump all standup. But consider what may happen when landing off field and encountering an unforseen obstical after your low, and on final. Aggressive input on a 150 could really hurt you.
  3. Hi all, got a question about renewing an Instructor raiting. I know you only have to pay one $20 fee for all plus membership fees. The USPA form states to only renew the highest rating you hold in each discipline or USPA coach. Is it nessary to have your Coach box signed off on also to renew an I raiting? Thanks
  4. What we do is get a GET WELL SOON CARD. All sign it and give it to the jumper before he hurts himself. For a Newbie it seems to mean something when it is signed by alot of D lic. #

Case #1...Beach jump, jumper with 1200 jumps and NO instructional raiting what so ever decided they need more jumpers to fly the load and decided to take a S/L CAT D for a Two way from 13.5K. There is a reason S/L Students only get 15-30 seconds in this catogory. So they dont get in trouble. And of course the student got into a flat spin and had to pull that way, landed off about 30 ft in the surf....no water training and ofcourse on flotation device. the student lived to jump again. Case #2 ..... A uspa coach ( the only one present at the DZ that day) Decided to take a CAT D student on a jump. first 15 second delay (coach only for F,G,H). On the flight up he decided to go all the way up to Alt (10K-182) scence it was the last jump of the day. Student got out of control, lost alt. awarness, and the Coach chased him down below 2K to pull for him (AFF-I only)....result two out for the student....student lived to jump another day. Case #3. Watched a Coach talk a student down on raido, sent the student to the far downwind side of the airfield before telling the student to turn it the wind about 1000'. The winds that day were gusting to 20, and the student got blown off the airfield and in to a tree. Student lived to jump again. Conclusion... I am glad I had a chance to wittness these, they have made me a better Instructor, I will never take a student beyond there abilities.
  6. So,...is it the only way to disconnect the skyhook is to open the reserve contianer and remove the Collins lanyard?
  7. Can you dissconect a skyhook like the older RSL's? I mean do they have that little tag like clasp you can pull to dissconect?
  8. It will get your reserve out before you can get into really bad body position after a cutaway, and it can help save you from a low cutaway.
  9. Yep, happened to me once. Was borrowing a rig, a vector2, so you know it had velcro. The right break released during snivel. I was pretty weird feeling, 360 turns during deployment. I grabbed riser and leveled out, then I noticed the right was not stowed, the problem was I couldn't let go of the left riser with the left hand, or it would start to spin again. so I had to unstow my left toggle with my right hand. Of course the collapisable slider was in the way. So in reaching up and over gave saddle input and it started turning to the left. Eventually I was able to grab it and release the stow above my hard deck..
  10. $5 for the seat and $1 per thousand ft. 3K would be $8 13K would be $18
  11. wanna talk about crazy, everyone emotions were high, landing in a plane full of jumpers in a thunderstorm with lightning and the little 182 crosswinding a landing with the power down is a thrilling thing. Some were mad cause they had to land with the plane, they wanted out, a hop in pop, in lightning and rain. All was clear when we took off, but the weather came in fast. Glad the pilot decided not to let them out low, to land the whole load. It was his first time to do that landing. Once the plane landed, barley, we taxied in to the hanger where everyone could get out dry, When I stepped out I herd a sound near my feet, and I was surprised to see my reserve pilot chute on the ground at my feet. Handle was not pulled and no cypress fire during decent. I'm glad the pilot decided not to open the door. I can't figure it out, except maybe my cable needs to be lengthened. When I looked at my handle and felt it to be sure it was still velcroed in place, the cable was at extension, or the little ball crimped to the end was all the way up and touching the handle with no slack. The rigger said my reserve pin was bent and need a new one. I looked around the planes interior and could not find anything that could have gotten between my reserve flap and then under the cable to catch it. I sat down from take off to landing, didn't move about any. I really glad I didn't cause that plane load to crash, I've herd stories about open doors and pilotchutes
  12. I agree with the idea of a "batman" method... less mix-ups and confusion. (I really never, like most students, got clear reception on the radios I used... while in training.) Also, I think instructors should land in the student area, if there is no one already designated to "talk the students down." Stay with your student! bsbd, sims
  13. hey i'll be passing thru sometime next week. i heard there was a caravan, is it still flying? (or will there be a super otter?) bsbd, simmy
