  1. I have 2 girls, 5 and 9. They are at the DZ with me every second weekend. (I'm divorced) If something happens to me? I guess someone would give them a lift home to mom. t It's the year of the Pig.
  2. 207. Year goal is 365 - for obvious reasons. I usually manage 400 a year - weekends only. t It's the year of the Pig.
  3. 18.5 Learn something new every day. t It's the year of the Pig.
  4. So have you figured out why "Fast is Last" and you should never track or fly your canopy up or down the line of flight? I think so. t It's the year of the Pig.

    Liberia - why?

You have to concede though, that in recent World history, the most likely people to attack the US are people and groups formerly funded by the US to attack the people the US considered ememies at the time. This constant "They were our friends - but now they're our enemies" reminds me of George Orwells, "1984" All nations need to deal in weapons with a "Best before: (we change our mind)" date. It's tough at the top. I've been angry at the US ignoring diplomacy and going to war with Iraq, and yet when I see my own countries slow, stumbling steps towards a diplomatic solution to the Zimbabwe problem while people die and President Robert Mugabe just gave himself a 600% increase, I wish for more direct action. t It's the year of the Pig.

Brilliant, thought provoking stuff... Scary too. t It's the year of the Pig.
  7. No.... Thankfully.. but we're all quite stunned as the dude just spent the last 5 years in a "dry spell"... so we want to know what he's changed... It's more of an embarasment than anything else... JSC could be.... Jerry Springer Club? t It's the year of the Pig.
  8. It's just occured to me - I do get tipped! I've had a pair of students ask me what I thought was a good freefly helmet - and did a little research and told them a Bonehead Mindwarp. They bought themselves 2, and me one as well. My Pro Dytter was a gift from an AFF student, as was my Alti 2 Altimeter. And I got a jumpsuit back in 1996, and after taking a junior team of former AFF students to nationals (and getting a bronze) in 1997, I got a Cypress. Another made me mini CD digital business cards. Cash in hand means nothing compared to that. I feel the love! t It's the year of the Pig.
  9. Some machines are more robust than others. If you're jumping something small, like a Bell Jetranger, Long Ranger, Squirrel etc, Have jumpers climb out on opposite sides and just fall off at the same time, so that there is minimum torque on the rotor head. Those things are expensive, and fragile. MI 8's, or bigger machines are less sensitive to this. 40 kts is a safe standard minimum out of small helicopters. t It's the year of the Pig.
  10. But then again.... You are scotish eh, John? t It's the year of the Pig.

Well that's because Monkey boy's right hand man DICK Chenney still considers Nelson Mandela a terrorist for using violence to overthrow the apartheid government.... t It's the year of the Pig.
  12. Yeah. We couldn't understand it either.... t It's the year of the Pig.
  13. Dress for success. I've done some big stuff, but find that AFF stretches my range to the max. I have a slow suit, for the 100lb students, and a fast "four way" suit (without grips) for the 220lb students. Some stuff in between too. t It's the year of the Pig.
  14. No, but it seems fairly common. We had a guy beat up on his ex at the DZ, and then more recently have had 1 woman attack another over a jumpmaster they are both attracted to. Me? I like to skydive at the DZ. t It's the year of the Pig.

Quote "Do you reckon South Africa is next on the chimpanzee's hit-list?" ------------------------------------------------ I don't know, but everyone was very careful to tell the president there is nothing in Africa but AIDS and famine. No mention was made of gold, diamonds, oil etc. Traditional dress was worn and our president arrived by donkey. t It's the year of the Pig.

Who said I wasn't full of hope? I saw "Tears of the Sun" with Bruce Willis disobeying orders to save a woman with too much cleavage from Nigeria. It's just not the same! George Bush is here now, and as our President said. "He's not coming at us like Big Brother... yet." t It's the year of the Pig.

So there can be a sequel to "Black Hawk down"? t It's the year of the Pig.
  18. We use a 2 handed system, backed up by an RSL. Australia uses SOS almost exclusivly. Obviously, if you're going to be a skydiver, you'll end up on a 2 handed emergency system, but you can train to make the change. I was trained on round mil surplus gear in the mid 1980's, and had to be retrained when I converted to squares. So far so good. t It's the year of the Pig.
  19. You need a bigger condo... After some research, I find that 5200sq ft is a baby in the world of big flag jumps. Hows 11 980 sq ft grab ya! check it out at http://www.extremeairads.com/record.html t It's the year of the Pig.
  20. Believe me, When you're sitting in a Porter with 8 other jumpers, and the L4 student askes if he'll be OK... and you say, "Ask him." and he does, and finds out the other 7 jumpers are all former students of yours - That feels good. Or when you're doing Tandem and a former student is doing camera for you - and doing it well. I recon 2 years from now I'll have former students who are AFF I's, and the requirements for AFF here are 1000 dives. I see your point, although it's never mundane. We're lucky to be paid to skydive, and later to learn from our students. One of my former AFF students briefed me for my 1st Birdman jump - several are freefly coaches at our DZ. t It's the year of the Pig.
  21. Will see if I can get one for you. PM you later. t It's the year of the Pig.
  22. That flag is around 2000 sq ft. Do a forum search for "Flags" and it's on one of those threads. Building US flags requires considerably more design as you can't just hang a giant weight off it, due to your tradition that "Old Glory" never touch the ground. Usually shot is sewn into pockets along the bottom edge. Of course, this increases bulk. Here in Africa we're a shade more practical. t It's the year of the Pig.
  23. Yeah. It's our National Flag. Not sure how many men and women made up the 400 hours... t It's the year of the Pig.
  24. Aerordyne systems took 400 man hours to build this flag, which is 5200 sq ft. The Canopy is the Aerodyne Gemini 389 Tandem main, piloted by Mark Horning. Photo by Vernon Kloppers. Both operate Skydive Durban, in South Africa. The dive took place 07/07/2003 t It's the year of the Pig.
  25. $13.3.... but we're in Africa and the exchange rate is crappy. t It's the year of the Pig.
