Zurich to LB is easy. There is a train station at the airport that goes directly to LB with one changeover-takes about 3 hrs. The train system is awesome in Switz. I've done this 5 times and will be back in Zurich late April for another 3 week base trip :-) playsafe
  2. Hi, I will be passing thru March 19-21st. Are there any locals or can anyone pm. me with any info on value of taking a rig. thanks Neil ps;apologies but I do not speak French

Congrats guys-seems like your having a lot of fun 'working.' If you need a replacement for that big ugly kiwi.......
  4. Hey Tom, from all the way down in New Zealand- "Huge congrats to both you and Mrs A." Although I haven't met Cheri yet please pass on my regards to her. Mums are special creatures. play safe Neil "The only time you should look down on someone is when you are giving them a hand up."
  5. Having seen numerous autopsies as part of my post grad pathology training, I learnt 3 things: 1. Don't smoke 2. Always wear a seat belt 3. Never get on a motorbike (excludes m/cross and trail riding). 4. Don't be a fat git ingesting a crappy diet. To date I have followed those religiously. At a push you could make a 5th 'learning' about alcohol & drugs but that is a bit more circumstantial and environment specific. flame away....
  6. Please substitute the word "mate" for "dude." Dude is an americanism which receives little use by those employing the Queen's English e.g NZers or Aussies.
  7. Any info on getting past the cab on a crane where the trap door is locked would be useful. eg is access easier from the front, side, back? Has anyone climbed above the cab from the outside? thnx
  8. If anyone is in Auckland, please don't burn the really obvious object in the city. I'd like to have a shot at this when I get back from the US (late Oct). pm me if you like.
  9. Hint: Try on the body armour with your rig. You may find the expansion of your torso volume makes your rig too small to wear comfortably. I bought 661 chest/back and found it is really restrictive with my harness-Ideally the harness would be an inch bigger or so.....
  10. I thought I read that one of our bretheren worked in med research (oncology). If this is you let me know if you will attend ECCO or the San Antonio Breast Conference. cheers
  11. YEEHAH! Fire me a mobile number that works or will you be with RK? If so I can reach you at his place. cya!
  12. Hey, I have finally managed to get my boss to give me time away from the office and have planned a US trip. I am arriving on Oct 14th (San Fran) and will spend a few days with "GG" the ex-base jumper.
  13. Does anyone have a phone number for Matt that works? thanks Neil

    Painkillers

Just in case anyone is thinking of using some morphine in the event of a remote base accident it may pay to remember that opiates can/do: depress respiratory drive can be hypotensive can increase intracranial pressure Pain won't kill you but the misuse of morphine might. A bit of formal tuition might ease the decision making process.... Marking the time and amount given on the patient may be useful when medical help arrives so that they understand what has been given
  15. Hey Hubert Yes, I remember the jumps! Unfortunately I am going to be based in Valencia for a med conference and won't have time to get away. If you want to head down to Valencia you can always crash on my hotel floor :-) cya
  16. Yo, I am doing a quick 5 days in Valencia, Spain. Are there any objects worth carting a rig from NZ? PM [email protected] many thanks Neil
  17. A thought... if "out of sight is out of mind" why don't people stop jumping the waterfall and focus on the other 3 exit points (well known at least). Any drama at the waterfall is immediately visible whilst the others seem to be lower profile. I would be in favour of a moratorium on this exit point even though there is currently no pressure for this to occur.
  18. I have a quick stop in North Carolina whilst returning from Europe. This will only be for a night (April 29th). Any locals? thanks Neil-NZ
  19. Swing via Valley Hostel if you are passing. I will be there from Apr 16th-29th. cya!

    The End . . . ?

Hey Nick only met you a couple of times, once in NZ many years ago, and most recently when stopping by at Annies. "Tough times don't last, tough folks do. " I figure you're like a piece of curled up barb wire. Sitting quiet but doing its thing...today...tomorrow...next year....and quite some time in the future. Te Kaha (be strong) Neil

    Just thinkin

You said "Oh, one more thing, is there a sport anywhere the French haven’t tried to ruin with there horrible accent and pink florescent tights i.e. climbing, skiing, skydiving, paragliding… .ect, geez is nothing sacred!" Maybe there are just as many people in Europe who might have issues with self conceited, loud, demanding, poorly travelled and one eyed Americans? Now don't get me wrong as I love all Gods children, and have many good American friends (&French). So lighten up tiger....
  22. I'm with you brother. I get 4-weeks a year away from the corporate plus some unpaid leave. I make sure that my free time is spent entirely jumping, usually in nice locations. Switzerland is only 15 days away........ Then when the boss is away....I tend to snuck off early and go diving.....After 6 years they still haven't cottoned on....
  23. Nick I think the list has a number of the aforementioned benefits e.g educational, memorial etc. However the picture of the reaper cheapens it and detracts from what it may offer. I concur with the suggestion to make it more of a collection of incident reports along with recommendations. The increased work may require additional resourcing. That aside, I think the list existing is better than a blackhole of information. cya
