Baton pass? Well something like that. Actually I was thinking of having a timed round. Meaning that the BASE jumper and the swooper had to land at the same time. IE: Jumping off of a certain cliff takes a BASE jumper 45 sec to land and he has to time his jump with the swooper. They need to land at the same time. SO if the swooper takes 45 sec to land from 1000' the BASE jumper should jump when the swooper is at 1000'. The shortest time wins. Bet you never thought of that round. It could work. Last summer CSC charged $79VHS and $89DVD and $99 for both VHS & DVD. I will be charging the same! $24 extra that's alot of money! But if your getting it, then good on you. It is Cali, also. I'm confused about the Non-Linear and Linear. Can you explain? I hear about it but I never remember these things. Someone said that it takes longer for the DVD, why? The formatting should only take 3 mins max, right? I'm only going by what we did at CSC. IT only took 30sec to a min to format after you hit the stop button. "I mail the completed project the following week. $25.00" Are you doing yours on the computer? I'm assuming you are. Wouldn't it be easier to just buy a DVD recorder for $450ish and give the student the video right there. I wouldn't want to get my video a week later, but I dont' have any patience either! There is no difference making a DVD video than a VHS video. You hit the record button on the DVD recorder just like the VHS recorder. Where is the best place to buy the DVD-R or DVD +R or DVD +RW. Hey Kaz, Thanks for the email. how are you? Congrats on the Deland swoop meet! We will be having a swoop meet here in the future. Don't know when but it will combine BASE jumping and Swooping together. Team events! I'll let you and everyone else know when it's final. I am definetly NOT looking for a Phillips! I have heard other stories about them! Panasonic or Sony is the 2 choices I'm looking at. Cajones! I have heard DO NOT use the RW's. I swore I would never BASE jump, but then I went to work at SNE and Mike Carpenter and the Spiders from Mars took me to BD in '98. I did 2 then and it took me another year to really start BASE jumping. I had over 1200 jumps at the time. We will soon be starting a BASE specific program at our dz that will take you a mimimum of 50 jumps to complete! All the info in those 50 jumps will be BASE orientated so that by the time you finish the program you will be ready to make your 1st BASE jump in Idaho. This program will be geared toward the individual who doesn't necessarily want to continue as a skydiver. Learning canopy skills will be the most targeted objective, with the majority of jumps being completed on BASE specific canopies. For non-skydivers or beginners who are really jonesing to start BASE jumping, this program will be faster and more cost effective. Of course, more experience has never hurt anyone either. Thanks for the info. What is the best Panasonic DVD Recorder, if you bought a Pansonic? I asked one of the sellers for Ebay what is the best DVD Recorder and he said this to me. Do you agree? The best quality dvd recorder is the panasonic unit. Panasonic is well known for some of the better dvd recorders on the market today. The audio video cable is different with the 105 than the 101. All of the old PC's, 100,101,5,9, they all plug into the yellow A/V spot into your camera. The 105 is different because it's like a firewire plug. It does the same thing but if you forget your 105 cable, you can't use the 101 cable to watch your video on the tv. Food for thought! I'm going to buy a DVD Recorder next month so I can offer DVD's to the students. Last summer my dz used a panasonic but I don't know what model it was. They have come out with a few more. A few issues that happened to the dz last summer. Lots of call backs saying that their DVD didn't work in their dvd player. Certain models wouldn't play their dvd. Is this because of the DVD-R or DVD+R or CD-R or CD+RW, etc. I forget what he used and he's in South Africa right now so I can't ask. Also, Formating the disc. After we were done recording we had to format it. His took around 30sec to a minute. His broke for awhile and he had to use someone else's and it took 3mins to format. This is what I don't want. I want a durable one but I dont want to spend $700 I have seen several models around the $500 mark and I'm assuming that they are all good, since they are all new models but what is the BEST one for $500? I have the same camera. Great for tandem shots. The built in flash is only good upto 15ft. It will only shoot 1/90. The picts are ausome. You have to be still to take the good clear shots. ANy movement will make the picture blurry. I have used the built in flast maybe 8 times in the past 2yrs and no problem now. Yes you really have to be carefull climbing out of the plane. I just checked it right now and it still is sturdy and doesn't move around that much. OF course it's going to put some wear on it, it's 120 mph but so far so good. I do have to say that I was sit flying while doing tandem videos and that the wind is coming up from the back of my helmet and it would seem that it would try and push the the flash down but it's still working. On your belly I think it would be fine! Head down, NO! We will be having some type of competition in the future. Not sure how soon but sometime this year. It will combine Swooping and BASE jumping! Some will not like the idea but oh well, that's life! But for others this will be a great opportunity to combine both sports! LEGALLY!! They swooped the BASE jumpers in Norway but it cost so much just to get there and a ticket to Moab anywhere in the USA is under $400ish! I would love to hear any ideas of how we can join the 2 sports together! There WILL be PRIZE MONEY! DISTANCE/ACCURACY will be two of the rounds. Combining the distance of the swooper and the BASE jumper! We all know that you can swoop BASE canopies! You don't have to swoop them either, just pass through the gates and you will receive a score. ACCURACY, well that's easy. Again combining the scores of your team and the lowest score wins. ANyone can do this, you dont' have to be the best BASE jumper to do this either. Since USPA hasn't done anything yet with making canopy progession better, then you should try. This is why all these canopy schools are popping up. The skilled canopy pilots of today are taking it upon themselves to teach canopy progession safely. 3 yrs ago, how many canopy schools were there? Maybe 2-5 and that's a high estimate. Now there is many. Who are teaching them, PD, Icurus, and many other top canopy pilots. So maybe USPA is just letting the canopy pilots do all the work. Maybe USPA is working on it and it might be coming out next year. It's not easy to make regulations, it takes time! I personally started my own canopy school and have been teaching it for the past 3yrs because I was tired of watching people bounce all the time. If you want to do something for your friends jumping HP canopies, watch them and critic them. Sure you might not have the experience to tell them what they are doing right and wrong but the more you watch the better you see things, good and bad. Get out there with a camera and shoot video. Video is the best tool out there for anyone learning HP landings. It doesn't need to be HP landings either! Everyone loves to see themselves on video, well most anyway, and once you see what you are doing, on video, right or wrong, then you can change your way of landing to make you safer and the people around you. Jay Moleski and I started swooping together back in '95 and we had several friends just starting to swoop also. I remember coming in from a landing and I was low and I knew it and for the next hr I was getting debriefed by everyone. We all sat in front of the hanger watching EVERY landing and studing them. VIDEO, I can't express how much this helps you. Friends could tell you that you "stabbed" it and you would say no you didn't, You weren't there. Then they show you the video and WOW, you stabbed it. "Video is the one eye that doesn't lie" So if USPA didn't do anything yet about canopy control, then you try to do something about it and YOU WILL LEARN so much more than waiting for USPA to do something about it! I remember a few threads on blinc, that big name companies wanted base footage for free. They have millions and they can't sent $1000 for a clip or 2. They make so much off of it. As for myself asking for some photos, I'm not saying, as Jason said, the 'we're on a budget' line......" I really don't have a budget. Starting a dz has taken every penny I have right now, soon it will be making money but for right now, I'm doing as best as I can with what I got. Good point about the backround, but were looking for face shots. Backround doesn't matter with the computers we have now a days. ALso we have not had the weather to get one of our staff people to go jump as a tandem student. We are waiting for some weather, and we are planning on doing such a jump. BUT we need high quality resoultion and we dont' have a camera here that can do that so I thought I'd ask this forum if anybody would like to have their picture published. If I had a great shot, and someone wanted to use it, I would feel great! I believe people should get paid also! If I had lots of money I would give it, but for right now.....I'm not there yet.
