  1. a brand new corp wouldnt get a loan for $1M or any other substantial amount. A personal guarantee would be required from the owner(s) of the company. This is a dream that everyone has. Some base-jumping philanthropist buys a tower or any other object and places a donation cup by the exit point. I did my FJC only a month and half ago and have dreamed of many variations of this. Unfortunately the reality is that there is a huge liabilty when you've allowed the jumps to occur and no matter what anyone says, when it comes time to lay sack on the table, no one would be willing to take that risk. It just takes one dickhead to ruin things and there's always at least one, no matter what sport or community you are in. -A Abbie Mashaal Skydive Idaho Snake River Skydiving TandemBASE
  2. dont buy new. seriously. do not buy new, especially this early. I am your same weight. I can tell you that a 190-class canopy is something you should rent from your dz or borrow or demo for a few jumps. you will be off of it very quickly. I bought a sabre2-170 as a my first canopy just a bit after 20 jumps and I'm nothing more than an average canopy pilot. I put 200 jumps on that thing and now have a sabre2-150 although i really enjoy borrowing my friend's 135. You are going to end up giving the second owner a sweet deal on that 188 if you buy it new. Plus your container wont be able to hold anything much smaller and that thing will have to go too. More money down the drain. Go buy a used container/harness and possibly a cypress. Call PD and start demoing canopies. In fact, call all the manufacturer's and do it. A 170 is a good place to be at your weight for a first canopy. Also, I personally recommend getting a 9-cell. Stay away from the triathalon... in my opinion its lame. not bad or dangerous.. just lame. i personally enjoy the better glide ratio a 9-cell delivers. That's my opinion, and there will surely be 25 trolls posting flaming disagreements. so remember.. its just my OPINION. people like different things from their canopies, and i've explained my preference. 3. Call my cell when you arrive, or preferably the day before and let me know when you will be arriving. I'll meet you at the registration booth. xxx.xxx.xxxx PM'ed my number to you. thanks kieth... goddam skydivers... cant trust em. 4. Thanks all, but amtrak's schedule sucks ass, as does greyhound, and bluebirds return to chicago ride. I'll be renting a car. I'll be much happier with the independence anyway. That, and I can fill the trunk with ice and stock it with beer. What's the deal with WFFC anyway? Is it like any other commercial event where beer is $5 a cup, and water is $7? Or is ulimited beer included with the price of admission? Cheers, Abbie Abbie Mashaal Skydive Idaho Snake River Skydiving TandemBASE
  5. Flying into ORD at 1230P Saturday. Anyone want to carpool down to Rantoul? I'd be more than happy to trade two or three jump tickets for a ride from and back to the airport (Tuesday night for me). Or... I'll just rent a car and if you need a ride, you can chip in and we'll carpool. cheers, abbie Abbie Mashaal Skydive Idaho Snake River Skydiving TandemBASE
  6. I fly into ORD 1230p on Saturday. I was planning to rent a car, so if anyone needs a ride around that time let me know. Just throw in for gas. I'm also willing to be on the other end of this deal if someone from the area wants to give me a ride. I need to have a way back to Chicago Tuesday night to catch my flight out though. 9. No worries. Things always get misinterpreted when written. I think we've beaten this subject to death now. cheers. Abbie Mashaal Skydive Idaho Snake River Skydiving TandemBASE
  10. ban me? well its good youre not in charge isnt it. zig heil. bitter? no. Bored and online is the sentiment you can read between the lines. there is no contraditon in my statements. 1%, refering to a minmal amount of disasters exactly corralates with the high number of things that I beleive need to go wrong for that to happen. So, you've already said you still feel the FJC should be a choice, though you continue to argue how much better a Tandem first jump is. What keeps you from wanting to make it mandatory? This goes out to the rest of you Instructors reading these. If you beleive it should be MANDATORY, I would truly like to hear compelling reasons to why. I can currently only view this debate from the point of view of a new jumper who has never done a tandem. Andy, sfebe, I see your points, but, do you think Tandem jumps should be MANDATORY before AFF? How many of you instructors went tandem on your first jump? Aren't tandem jumps relatively new to the sport? -A Abbie Mashaal Skydive Idaho Snake River Skydiving TandemBASE
  11. Hi. I'm glad someone got to read it before it was deleted! My name is Abbie (consider it short for Abraham) and you can find me on the weekends at Skydive Taft, Skydive Elsinore, or Skydive California City. I tend to bounce around between them all. To sum up most of my last post without getting deleted again... I think this thread turned into an AFF vs. Tandem FJ battle which was not the original question. The question was whether Tandem FJ should be mandatory. I'm glad that we are in accord as to the fact that it should be a choice. That has been my point all along. Cheers and blue ones. Whoever read my deleted post... the other statement still stands. Abbie Mashaal Skydive Idaho Snake River Skydiving TandemBASE
  12. Sounds like the 1% factor to me... As I'm not an instructor, you tell me... how often does that happen. From what I've seen its the minority. Abbie Mashaal Skydive Idaho Snake River Skydiving TandemBASE
  13. Yes, clearly I am not. As my profile says NO under AFF instructor. What other clues did you use to figure that one out, Captain Obvious. And clearly, the statistics of AFF student death/injury show the method of instruction to be safe. Part of AFF instruction is to asses the student's readiness. As an AFF Instructor with 4000+ jumps, I would bet you do not take a student up who is white in the face during ground training. 99% of the time I would bet an experienced AFF Instructor will have an idea of the degree a student will screw up in the air and if he/she is a candidate for the jump. If during/after ground instruction there is doubt, the Instructor can choose to not allow the student in the air. That's the job, assesment as well as instruction. 14. Yeah right... and we should make sure all kids where helmets, kneepads, and wristguards while crossing the street. I'm sure there's a skydiving video game we can make mandatory too, before the first tandem. Abbie Mashaal Skydive Idaho Snake River Skydiving TandemBASE
  15. You've failed to mention that in order to die, the 2 AFF instructors need to fail at both recognizing a students abilities and their duties in the air to keep the student safe. Furthermore, the AAD on the student rig would have to fail. After deployment if there was complete radio failure or the student was passed out/"brain-locked"/whatever, he'd receive a broken leg at WORST under giant student canopy. Abbie Mashaal Skydive Idaho Snake River Skydiving TandemBASE
  16. no... fuck no. People need a choice. It obvious that AFF is completely safe. Why take away that option? For added saftey? How far shall we take it... 3-parachute system and mandatory Tandem Hop'n'Pops for first-timers? I did AFF right away not because I was sure I was going to continue with this sport, but because that's what sparked my interested. There's many people like me, and we don't like to sit in the passenger's seat. And no, I am not one of those guys that have a deathwish. I belive neither extreme is good. One way you die quick, the other you never live. Cheers, A Abbie Mashaal Skydive Idaho Snake River Skydiving TandemBASE
  17. Can you add a gear review for the Fusion. I would like to hear what others know about it. Thanks, A Abbie Mashaal Skydive Idaho Snake River Skydiving TandemBASE
  18. The concerns were expected. My question was answered though and I thank everyone for the posts. I'll post a picture when we get around to jumping the new toy. Oh and an applaude to Schmookeeg for that last post. ;-) Blue ones, Abbie Abbie Mashaal Skydive Idaho Snake River Skydiving TandemBASE
  19. Is there a safe way to jump from a Sundowner 180? Maybe the baggage door behind the wing? Blue Ones! Abbie Mashaal Skydive Idaho Snake River Skydiving TandemBASE
