  1. Ya know, I think its mandatory for every loony bin on the planet Earth to discharge their patients for at least some period of time in SoFlo. We import 'em, we grow 'em, some are just passing through but this place is riddled with every fucking whack job imaginable. Only recently have 'Don't shoot, I'm a local' t-shirts gone out of fashion. Driving on I-95 is straight out of Mad Max. Any of you that want to come personally witness this freak show lemme know. Guest room is always available. Cheers, Whit Thank god for Pahokee on the weekends.....
  2. I'm not actually sure. It's a still shot from video. Olav has this lens that looks like the eye of a whale. (about 3 inches across). I think it's a .30 but I could be wrong. Exactly. Handles are always a big consideration on hybrid dives. His cutaway handle is red and the reserve is black. Ironically, this dive ended in a cutaway for me. Baglock. Luckily my main landed 20 feet from my freebag in a plowed field. Cheers, Whit
  3. Last jump of the weekend. I'm hanging from the straps. Cool view, huh? Whit
  4. ***Actually... there is a person, in the UK IIRC, who was unconcious for over a minute in freefall and lived. Another jumper did the damn-near-impossible - caught him/her and pulled for them. quote] Now we're really splitting hairs....
  5. No it's not. Everyone who dies as a result of head trauma during an accident is dead. duh...... But not every accident causes fatal head trauma. And that's the point. Every instance of unconciousness for over one minute in freefall does. That's what makes HIS comparison specious. It's not apples and apples. Your getting so far off point now I'm not going to continue. Good day guys, Whit
  6. Of course its valid. It matters not whether your new condition "altitude awareness" is also a reason for the use of a Cypres. The only condition in my argument was unconsiousness. My argument is 100% valid and undeniable. Now as to my statement about being stupid. Well, I defer to Forrest Gump... Cheers guys, Whit
  7. Specious argument. Not wearing a helmet does not mean 100% fatality rate. Not wearing a Cypres while unconsious in freefall does.
  8. Well said Chris. My question to those opposed to using a Cypres is “Will you jump without a reserve?” Sound like a silly question? I’m serious. Here is my thinking…. Skydiving is dangerous. Flying a 747 is also dangerous. Driving a car, riding a bike, scuba diving, (pick your sport), just about every activity is associated with some level of danger. It is what we do to mitigate and contain the dangers through systems that reduce our risks of bodily injury to some level of acceptance. Skydiving without a rig is 100% fatal. A single parachute will save you 100% of the time if there are no mishaps. So why carry a reserve? Because we all know there are mishaps. Case in point; I had cutaway #2 on Sunday, Does carrying a reserve guarantee 100% survivability? No! We also know that. But we have now reduced our risks to an acceptable level. Getting knocked unconscious for over a minute in skydiving is fatal 100% of the time without a Cypres. Guaranteed. YOU WILL DIE! Please let me repeat. Getting knocked unconscious for over a minute in skydiving is fatal 100% of the time without a Cypres. Guaranteed. YOU WILL DIE! Does a Cypres guarantee 100% survivability? No. Nobody is making that argument. A Cypres is merely one more system to mitigate the risk. These silly postulations about ‘depending on the Cypres to fire, two canopies out etc. are missing the point entirely. And certainly there are times when I want my Cypres unarmed and I can turn it off. But I’ll say this at the risk of being flamed --- I believe that any argument against the use of a Cypres in recreational skydiving is a rationalization for being stupid! Cheers, Whit
  9. Just recently I set mine to 8 grand (accidently) - caused me to break off early....*shrug* But I've never had one buzz for 5500 feet. The only time my ProTrack acts squirrelly is when the batteries get low. Are yours fresh? If it really is defective then I'm sure L&B will replace it. Be safe, Whit
  10. I just discovered a great way to blank tapes. I put my camera in the VCR mode and hit record. It records a blank video (grey/black) with 0 volume audio. I use a PC110 and I assume you can do this with most cameras. Blue Ones, Whit
  11. Moved to ftp://ftp.skydivingmovies.com/public/freefly/whit/freeflySDA.wmv Let me know what you guys think...
  12. I seem to have mostly two minute edits… ftp://ftp.skydivingmovies.com/uploads/freeflySDA.wmv [head bowed in submission]Yeah, I know the vid is a shameless plug… [more cheerful] but it's still fun to watch…. Enjoy, Whit
  13. Thanks Dave New locale ftp://ftp.skydivingmovies.com/public/freefly/whit/IanWhit2way.wmv
  14. Enjoy, Whit ftp://ftp.skydivingmovies.com/UPLOADS/IanWhit2way.wmv
  15. I was originally planning to but now can't.... A bunch from SDA are going, the plane leaves thurs am. Those that are going will get to enjoy our Otter on roids. If you get really lucky you may get to go on a light load and rocket your way to altitude. She can be seen in all her badassness at the end of the vid below. It's sick.... Enjoy, Whit ftp://ftp.skydivingmovies.com/UPLOADS/IanWhit2way.wmv
  16. Actually no I wasn't referring to Andy. He left over a year ago and there's enough animosities to start a forum category. I got off easy with only being owed a pair of handles. I won’t speak for others but it wasn’t pretty. We’ve had two riggers since. Non-locals that moved on.
  17. Er....I mean he moved on to where ever.....
  18. You better try Air Adventures in Clewiston ask for Lee or Skydive Miami in Homestead. Either is a truck from FTL but the only other I know nearby is Sebastion and it's even further. At SDA in Pahokee we lost our rigger a couple of months ago. Hear that, riggers? Be safe, Whit
  19. This is a gas. Judedre our local wanker from across pond opened his whacked out toolkit and started this pet rock craze a week ago. The TP saga at SDA continues. Right after opening you toss a roll without hanging onto it. It unfolds all the way to the end. BTW skydivers; a bunch of people chasing the same roll is an invitation for disaster. It takes a lot of turning to stay with one. A collision would be very possible and decidedly un-cool. My comfort level is a two-way or solo. Watch yourselves. (sorry about the lens fog, the humidity was about a billion)
  20. You know, I pray that you're right but I just don't know how many 9/11's (which is a relatively small attack compared to the potentials) that America can really endure and "come out on top". There are lots of worst case scenarios and pretending that there are solutions that can prevent them all is ludicrous. We need Missle defense and every other possible protection we can think of which should include pre-emptively destroying ALL regimes that potentially wish us harm. My gut feeling is there is some nasty history about to be made. Please people HAVE A SAFE WEEKEND! Whit
  21. Ho hum... a mere 12 million possible casualties...yawn....keep fiddling won't you Nero!
  22. Goofing with Adobe Premiere. Two videos - 2 way freefly jumps viewed from both my camera/ his camera. Enjoy, Whit http://www.2bizzare.com/gwhit/ 4MB each. Windows Media Player. I suggest you download rather than stream, the server is 128k DSL only.
  23. Are you kidding??? He's having the time of his life. He just turned 17 and loves American chicks. He got an eyeful of more T&A in one day in Islamorada than I had my entire life by that age. Ask him about the porn stars that came to the DZ wearing "Free Blowjobs" t-shirts. Need I say more? Nah, use your imaginations....let's just say you'll be hard pressed convincing him this isn't the greatest country in the world....
  24. Ya know, I had forgotten I was wearing the shirt. We had all been wearing SDA t-shirts doing promo stuff in Islamorada. I thought Chuck was psychic at first until I realized. Quite literally I was thinking "Now, how the hell...." then I looked down. Duh...... The moral to the story is "Wear your DZ.com shirts gang!" especially traveling. I'm glad I did....Ciao, Whit
