A long time ago, im guessing 1972-1973..i was spending a weekend or two at a DZ called Pope Valley,Calif. Here is the story as i remember it. It may contain a few errors as it was a long time ago. One day, I believe it was Curt Curtis, but could easily be wrong. Decided to do a smoke jump. I was present so i know something like this did occur. So this person attaches 9 smoke grenades to each arm...9 smoke grenades to each leg..36 total. Goes up in the cessna and climbs out on the step...another jumper inside the plane starts pulling the pin on all the grenades on the inboard side, while the jumper himself pulls the pins on the outboard side. While this guy was in freefall, there were no arms or legs visible outside the smoke trail...the man looked like a freakin comet! Does anyone remember this...and more importantly correct my story for errors.

I agree the Thunderbow might not have been a sharp-edged triangle...a little bit more rounded than that...but not quite a PC either...a crossbreed perhaps...but id call it a triangle.

How many people have jumped a tri-angle...ex. the Thunderbow. Ive got a few jumps on a Thunderbow, probably a half dozen or so...anyone else? There is still one that makes an appearence at the ranch every 5 or 6 years..a jumper has one and jumps it for old times sake.

Than again you have synchronized-swimming...also a thrill.

I remember it....kinda like the Cruise-lite...don't remember much more about either...fairly common canopies for that era.

OK ..I partially agree...but how about a wind tunnel nations....just as that. A californis team or two challenge a east coast team or two to such a competition...as a lark so to speak...and it slowly grows from there...i could definetly see THIS happening.

"SHAWANGA!" got started at the ol shawanga vally dz. migrated to stormville shorty afterwards...and yes i know the name of ferds place...was there today.

Why not run the whole competition in a tunnel and not skydive at all, since all the stuff you can't do in a tunnel is "waste"? I don't doubt that one day there will be the Wind Tunnel Nationals.....could even be shown on tv..live...might make the Olympics oneday....true skydiving may eventually be replaced due to economics...weather...danger..etc.

Anyone still around from the ol' Stormville DZ...circa 1968-!980 ?

I enjoyed yourpost very much...i started jumping in 1968 at a DZ called Stormville,NY. I miss All the good ol' days i spent there..jumping..camping..drinking..loving. The one thing you said about "rain..snow..sleet..blizzard...whatever..you knew that on the weekend...your friends would be there" very, very true...today on a day like that...your lucky if someone is even around. I miss those days very much and if i could do it all over again...i wouldn't have changed a thing.. I hope those days replay in my mind..as i breathe my last someday.

Im with ya on this one..been a horrible weather year in upstate NY and why should the party end now. Probably knock out power for a week or so...gotta love it.

Id vote foe the porn queen...has experience in front of the camera...knows what her assets are and how to use em for the most financial gain. Plus can you imagine the media frenzy...give the rest of the USA something to watch over the dreary winter ahead.

I be a old alligator of a human being....when i was growing up...if I were to give an adult the finger...that adult, whether he knew me or not, pretty much had the god-given right to beat the tar outta me..than take me to my parents so they could beat the what ever was left. The other day i was talking to a neighbor...his spawn-boy began wailing on me as hard as he could...no we are talking about a 4 year old here...his full on punches couldn't hurt much...but he was only tall enough to reach my groin area...which was troublesome....i asked the father to make the kid stop...and what does the father do? He looks at the kid and says.."Lil Bob...if you need attention...just say Daddy i need a hug. Now i would have expected at least a swat on the bottom! What the hell was this! The kid didn't know me at all. Just started wailing on me..cause i was talking to his Dad. Hopefully the kid wont try this on someone else..he maqy find life can get difficult very quickly.

I hate being behind a school bus, and i pretty much dislike the cargo they carry anyway. Following a school bus, watching mommies little angel give me the finger from the rear window for two miles...stopping every 100 feet or so...and waiting while little johnny takes 5 minutes to get off the bus. If the little angels can't cross the street without traffic stopping...what the hell are they doing off their mommas teat anyway. Im for thinning the herd and letting traffic flow.

35 years...first jump August 11 1968 Way to many memories to list here.

Can't even imagine having to pay money to the man who has been boinking my ex wife.....Oh Yeah! im getting married real soon!!! sure i am.

With your credentials of 650 jumps, and your preference being freeflying, i can't imagine why we didn't take your opion into account..before sending the KNIGHTS to the world meet.

The Knights hads the HEAT this year. I for one am glad they won the Nationals...and Im Damn Glad they are representing us!!

Id like very much for there to be a really open discussion of all these topics and more posted here. If people were free to post their true feelings. Unfortunatly, people are are not often allowed to speak freely. The pressures of being politically correct prevent a truly open forum. I am now 54 years old and tired of being politically correct to be accepted. I pretty much feel ive paid my dues in that regard and speak what i feel. The hell with hurting someones feelings anymore.
