  1. Unless something has changed the Jump Shack actually has closing flap sequence placarded on the top main flap in plain sight so people can see it every time they close the main tray.
  2. Next thing you know she'll start a Facebook page call Citizens Against Space Junk Re-Entering The Atmosphere. It could interrupt her morning stroll through her garden.
  3. What I was told by a CO attorney: CO law permits going after a losing plaintiff for court costs and expert witness fees, but not legal expenses.
  4. If I said what I'm really thinking the mod would have deleted it.
  5. Kimberley's gripe is not necessarily peak decibel levels but decibel levels over time. So, I'm not sure why the judge is even heading out for a field trip. At the end of the day it boils down to one's ability to tolerate a particular duration of noise at any decibel, frequency, pitch, etc. Some people can't even stand to be at the dinner table with anyone due to their inability to cope with normal eating noises. In my view Kimberly has the same condition except with Twin otter engine noise. I hope Kimberly and CQS suffer a major defeat, sell their homes and move farther away from society.
  6. More like Ted from There's Something About Mary.
  7. Assuming it is the same Jim Garrison he did continue on to jump at the Independence Airport. He also had a C-172 that he kept at Roosterville Airport. Unfortunately, Jim was killed on his motorcycle back around 1995 or so (other persons fault). Jim was a great guy and always a pleasure to be around.
  8. //I am tired of boom boxes and the joy riders of the sky assaulting my senses. People live in Colorado because of the open space and natural setting, and these dive-bombing nuisances are a huge irritant. It's like trying to find peace and tranquility in a hornets nest! Enough!// If it's "peace and tranquility" you desire you will not find it posting your views on this web site. You are correct, these "dive-bombing nuisances" will be a huge irritant. Just like hornets when you F*ck with their nest. Enough is right. Please move on to your next crusade which should involve seeking a home further away from society.
  9. Name dropper...just not your own. "Highly professional" at what? You come on a skydiving web site and expect something other than "negative comments". Apparently, you are not as smart as Ms. Gibbs. In reality though, you probably are Ms. Gibbs...or perhaps Teresa Foster. I dont' know the owner(s) of Mile High Skydiving but I hope they fight you to the ends of the earth. In fact, I think we will add a weekend at MHS to our Colorado trip this summer so we can jump out of "those noisy, obnoxious airplanes". I encourage others to do the same.
  10. Sorry but Ms. Kimberly Gibbs is a moron! I found her voice in the video to be grating and obnoxious. Imagine having to listen to that from 7:30 am to 9:00 pm. The Otter is music to our ears.
  11. I don't want to put a damper on the skydiver's fun, but don't they have mufflers for those things? Jeez! [/Dont' they have a muffler for you whiners.]
  12. Remember that the two locking stows are almost always holding the too-large canopy into the too-small d-bag. It is usually very simply that the locking stows have more force imposed onto them than the line stows because of this. If you look at the attached photo, you will see that the locking stows are stretched far more than most line stow rubber bands would be. Does this opinion help any? JerryBaumchen[/Don't forget the line group is thicker closer to the locking stows due to cascades/steering lines]
  13. "One of the top MHS complainers, Tom Zweck, has been seen exposing himself to aircraft as they overfly an area near his farm on the established downwind pattern leg for runway 11. I must admit I was offended to say the least." Get a picture or video and just happen to have a minor present and Mr. Zweck could end up on the sex offender registry.
  14. I'll take two of those! In addition, how can I get one of the jerseys?
  15. Yes, certainly emotions run high on both sides. I've seen it on the streets and in forums over and over again. I also agree that cyclists should choose their routes wisely and obey the laws. Same for motorists. Since the laws are what they are, please obey them while you work for whatever change it is you desire. Even if you disagree with the law you should still be made to conform to it. If it is true the FL accident that started this thread was alegedly caused by a distracted young driver killing a man while riding in a designated bike lane. If this is true then laws have been broken which resulted in an unnecessary death of a fine indvidual. You mentioned a couple times about the trauma inflicted upon the driver in circumstances like this. Give me a break. You break the law and kill someone and witness their lifeless broken body bleeding in the roadway you should be traumatized. NO, I DO NOT have much empathy for such people and I would not expect much empathy for myself if I took the life of an innocent human. As far as the driver's family? What about the victim's family? I don't think you have addressed that issue with any of your posts. Tax cylists? Honestly go for it. Change the law. Make a proposal. Lobby for it. Contact your leaders. Understand the cost of admintrating and enforcing it. Know that you would need to register your kids tricycle if they used the bike path. You may even need to pay to get that tricycle inspected. That's not "hateful rhetoric" is it? All right..I'm done too. Please be careful out there and treat each other with respect.
  16. *** -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In Reply To -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To clarify the law already prohibits bicycles on "Interstates". -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CO provides a state roadmap map for cyclists which categorizes the roads. Riding on the interstates is prohibited only when there is no alternative nearby parallel road. I have ridden I-70 between MM 252 & 254 a number of times. There is no other way to get from Hwy 40 to Bergen Park. It is really a non-issue. The paved berm is as wide as a traffic lane. Quote Thank you. I was not aware of that. Wish me luck I need to get in a quick 30 tonight before the sun goes down.
  17. Popsumper, these people made bad decisions and in some cases broke the law. Laws that are there for their protection. They paid a price. The motorist might be out the cost of some touch-up paint. What I and others are concerned about is that we can obey every law in the world and still be mowed down by a dumb fuck in broad daylight. How do we minimize those risks? Telling us all to leave the roadway is not the answer. That's almost akin to telling victims of drunk drivers that they should not have been on the road. The answer can only be a combination of education and law enforcement.
  18. Use your common sense people. This applies to all road users...right? Popsjumper , you have been posting a lot on this thread. What do you want to see happen? What are your solutions? Has anything that we have posted made any sense to you or has this just been a pissing contest? I take this issue very seriously since my life is on the line every time I get out on my bike.
  19. Yes, I get it that bicycles have a right to be in the road- and ever since the internal combustion engine, it is long past time to change that! I would support a law prohibiting bicycles in any road with a speed limit over 25 MPH*. The logic is clear in this- we already have laws prohibiting pedestrians on the interstate, taking the bikes off faster streets over 25 MPH is a logical extension. Sounds like skydiving?
  20. ***The argument that fuel taxes don't pay the whole cost of the road is irrelevant. Just because you pay a portion of the tax doesn't mean you get to do whatever the fuck you want with the right of way. Part of my taxes pay for the capitol building too, but I don't think I have a right to walk in there and start a football game whenever I want- the dominant use should prevail and be protected. Quote You should be careful with your dominant use argument or you may not be allowed to skydive anymore.
  21. We wouldn't need to do battle with 3,000 lbs machines if people would respect the laws, our rights, and quit tweeting, texting, racing, talking, programming their Garmins and jacking off behind the wheel. You have a responsbility while driving that loaded gun. I hope they prosecute that 23 year old kid that hit the cylist in FL to the fullest extent of the law. At least a jury had the balls to put the good LA doctor in jail for 5 years for his conduct unbecoming a human. Nobody said bikers were immune to that. Just like skydiving we try to minimize those rists. Motorists are the absolute biggest threat to cyclists. Cyclists pose no real threat to motorists. Check out the stats on that and bring them to the table. I would like someone from the anticycling community to share what it is that really frosts your balls about cyclists. If that 5% of bad cyclists obeyed the law would that help or do you just hate people who wear spandex and enjoy the goodness and comraderie that comes from cycling.
  22. Drew, thank you for empirical evidence regarding the sidewalk issue. Hopefully it will open some eyes. I ride upwards of 5,000 miles a year on the streets and country roads in/around Kansas City and am therfore very familiar with topic at hand. I would like to make the following simple concise points: 1. Cycling is a growing activity in almost every city. People use it for transportation, recreation, rehabilitation, etc. It may not be what you choose to do but it is not going away. 2. Motorists should read and understand the laws as they pertain to operating motor vehicles around bicycles. I can guarantee many motorists would be surprised at what they don't know. Please educate yourselves. 3. Cyclists should read and understand the laws as they pertain to operating their bicycles. I can guarantee many cyclists would be surprised at what they don't know. Please educate yourselves. 4. Both motorists and cyclists should obey these laws for the safety of ALL involved. 5. I encourage law enforcement to educate themselves as to the specifics of the law and feel free to enforce those laws EQUALLY. 6. Simply treat your fellow humans with a little respect. That bike rider could be your father trying to rehabilitate from knee or open heart surgery. It could be your son or daughter commuting to their college class or to work because they cannot afford a car. It could be your son trying to become the next Lance Armstrong. That is my diplomatic approach. We'll try that first.
  23. For both motorists and cyclists. Summary of Missouri State Statutes Related to Bicycling • Motorists may not do anything, even something that otherwise appears to be legal, that endangers a bicyclist, pedestrian, or other motorist. Safety, not speed, is the highest consideration in traffic law. • In Missouri, bicycles and motorized bicycles may ride on any street except travel lanes of interstate highways or where prevented by local law. • Bicyclists have the same rules, rights and responsibilities as other drivers. For example, bicyclists must stop at stop signs, signal turns, and drive on the right-hand side of the road. • This means that motorists must treat bicycles as any other vehicle. For instance, do not pull out in front of a moving bicyclist, cut a bicyclist off, or pass a bicyclist unsafely. • When traveling slower than traffic, bicyclists generally move to the right of the travel lanes, just as other slow moving vehicles do. But do not expect bicyclists to hug the curb, dodge in and out between parked cars, or ride on a debris-covered shoulder. Bicycling that way is not safe, and the law requires bicyclists to ride safely. • If the lane is too narrow to safely share between a bicycle and a motor vehicle, the bicycle may move towards the center of the lane so as to discourage motor vehicles from dangerously squeezing past in the lane. If you see a bicyclist riding in the middle of the lane in this way, the bicyclist is following the law. Slow and wait behind the bicyclist until it is safe to move into the next lane to pass. • Bicyclists may sometimes ride the shoulder of the road when available. But they are not required by law to do so. Obstacles in the shoulder such as glass, debris, or rough pavement may not be obvious to the motorist but may be very dangerous to the bicyclist. • Bicycle lanes may not be blocked or used for parking. Motorists must signal and yield to any bicyclists in the lane before crossing a bicycle lane. As with shoulders, bicyclists may leave the bike lane for any number of reasons, including debris, obstacles, or to prepare for a turn. Bicycle-related Quotes from the Missouri Driver Guide • “On public streets and highways, [bicyclists] have the same rights and responsibilities as a motor vehicle operator.” • “If you are following a bicyclist and need to make a right turn, you must yield to the cyclist. It is often safer to slow down and remain behind the cyclist until you are able to turn.” • “Motorcyclists and bicyclists change speed and lane position when encountering bad road conditions, such as manhole covers, diagonal railroad tracks, road debris or in strong winds. Be ready to react.” • “When you are passing, give motorcycles a full lane width. If possible, give a full lane to bicycles and mopeds, too. Do not squeeze past these road users. The bicycle is generally a slower moving vehicle and this may require you to slow down. Wait for a clear stretch of road before passing a cyclist in a lane too narrow to share.” • "The operator of a motor vehicle overtaking a bicycle proceeding in the same direction . . . shall leave a safe distance when passing the bicycle, and shall maintain clearance until safely past the overtaken bicycle." Passing unsafely is a traffic offense punishable by driver license points, fines, and even jail, if a collision results. • “The law says who must yield the right-of-way; it does not give anyone the right-of-way. You must do everything you can to prevent striking a pedestrian or another vehicle, regardless of the circumstances.” • “Sharing the road with others, in a considerate manner, makes the road safer for everybody!”
  24. I routinely see motorists doing the same thing. Doesn't mean I hate ALL motorists. I'm all for punishing cyclists for violating the law but you better damn well do the same for motorists. There are more and more bikes on the road. One cyclists life should be worth all your time.
