  1. The best thing my instructor told me was to look at the end of the runway when flaring. Try to keep a few feet above the runway by slowly increasing back pressure (power off) to maintain height while looking towards the end of the runway and the plane will sit onto the runway as speed drops off. Looking at the end of the runway seems to stop you from making to many attitude adjustments that can be caused by the difficulty in judging distance when looking at the runway directly ahead and to the side of you. Worked for me. Good luck.
  2. Congrats! it looks massive! Cant wait to try it out!
  3. Ok, I'm sure this has been done before, but what are your favourite skydiving clips (non commercial) available to all on the net? Post the links or the website they are at where direct links aren't allowed. Mine are: - Swedish friflaj festival 2003 (headdown.net under skydive and base movies/movies) - friflaj 2002 (headdown.net under skydive and base movies/skydiving) - dawigvid (skydivingmovies.com search 'dawigvid') - Spin (skydivingmovies.com search 'spin.wmv') Enjoy!
  4. Hi, is there any news on when the tunnel will be opening?
  5. Trying to remeber my pilot training ... but it may be prevented by the propeller wash on the tail. At take off when applying full power the plane yaws which you have to compensate for. This is caused by the propellor air circulating around the body of the plane where it hits the tail causing the yaw. This effect may prevent any roll as it compensates.
  6. I did AFF and loved it. I'm a pilot too and found altitude awareness, canopy control and navigation (airfield orientation and pattern setup) not a problem due to the pilot training, so the extra time under canopy that static line gives you is less of an issue. Research and visualise each level (and emergency procedures!) before doing it for real as i'm sure you did for your flying lessons (I know I did, especially circuits, EFATO's and forced landings) and you will fly through. Preparation = no repeats.
  7. Another random idea. Have you been scuba diving recently? I guess this would aggrevate any altitude related issues.
  8. When I did my AFF I would go through the levels coming up in my mind (with actions!) a number of times. Lie on your bed (sofa or whatever) and go through the whole jump , practice pulls, altitude checks until it comes second nature. I think it avoids brain lock because when under pressure you revert to what you've practiced. I also, used to do my emergency procedures every morning before heading to work and had printouts of pictures for hand signals and malfunctions with the answers on the back and went through them until I knew them all. It really worked for me (no repeats) and I reccomend it. Skydive Elsinore has all the levels in flash so you can see what your going to do on each level. Hope this helps.
  9. Found this short article that is quite interesting. looks at the psychological influence on your body during skydiving. http://jcem.endojournals.org/cgi/content/full/83/4/1397 Edited by slotperfect to make the link clicky.
  10. Try Norwich Union, my work got a life insurance policy as key man insurance for £500k @ £41 / month. I had to fill in additional forms for Skydiving and Flying, but was surprised by how cheap the premiums were. I think I said I would be doing either 50 or 100 jumps a year.
  11. Has to be crazy ivan. he cracks me up!
  12. Watched the 11th episode on monday night and they just keep getting better and better! I have to say this is my favorite series on at the moment. I liked the orignal as a kid, but this is far better!
  13. Bit torrent isn't dead. A number of sites have shut down, but there are loads more. Try: http://www.torrentreactor.net/index.php http://www.torrentbox.com/index.php http://www.torrentsearch.us/
  14. Yes, you can transfer the files from your ipod to your PC. The files are hidden so you you need to go to windows explorer and turn on 'show hiiden files' to see them. Then just copy and paste them as per normal. They aren't grouped in nice files structures like artist though.
  15. ok, I don't have much experience and there are probably loads of reasons why this is a bad idea, but what about this... You hook up a small mp3 player to an audible altimeter so that once it detects freefall, it starts playing your favorite music track! Full face needed with integrated headphones and have to cut off music when audible warnings trigger or you deploy. Just like a skydiving vid on every jump!
