  1. It's about time we move from science denying leftist dogma, to rational data based decision making.
  2. Of all of the posters on this thread, how many of you are even veterans? Roll call! I am and I know "my existence while grotesque and incomprehensible, to you, saves lives. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall! You use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something, you use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination, to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I'd rather you just say 'thank you' and go on your way."
  3. According to NPR, this sort of communication pause is common during transitions. Middle management puts things on hold until they get on the same sheet of music as the political appointees. If it continues after the appointed staff is in place that is a different matter. I know it might offend some people that NASA's mission may shift from telling Muslims how awesome they are and climate change, back to space exploration but as Obama said, elections have consequences.
  4. The Dems will block ANY Trump pick, forcing the Rs to employ the nuclear option for SC nominees. The actuarial tables tell us there might be some more liberal losses on the court, replacing 80 year old liberals with 50 year old conservatives.
  5. The Supreme Court's action casts doubt on the long-term future of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's rule because it increases the chances that the conservative-leaning Supreme Court would take the case after a lower court issues a decision on the legality of the regulations and ultimately would strike it down. I may have jumped the gun a bit but....end result.
  6. He's said he wants to eliminate the EPA's Clean Power Plan. Do you know what that is and does concern about eliminating it equate to a "special kind of stupid"? There is nothing to eliminate, the courts did that, the CPP was illegal.
  7. Only a couple of weeks ago you said that all deregulation was that easy. You said that Trump would get rid of swathes of overregulation at the stroke of a pen, and that you were happy about it. Why were you lying? Obviously the subtle distinctions of regulation and overregulation elude you. I said roll back the billions of dollars of Obama's regulations. I did not say let's go back to 1800's Great Britain.
  8. You guys seem to think that Trump is going to sign an executive order authorizing fracking waste water to be dumped into our lakes and rivers. That special kind of stupid makes me sad.
  9. A river fire caused by Trump? You bet!
  10. Says this guy, "If Trump really works at it, maybe we can have another river catch fire before he leaves office!" BillV
  11. The fuel tax raised $35.2 billion in 2014 for the Federal government alone.
  12. I keep hearing claims like this all the time. But they never give examples of these subsidies. Are there any, or is this just pure bullshit? I gave three examples earlier in this thread.
  13. "SolveClimate News: Can you explain why you have said it's "game over" on the climate front if the Keystone XL pipeline is built? James Hansen: President George W. Bush said that the U.S. was addicted to oil. So what will the U.S. response to this situation be? Will it entail phasing out fossil fuels and moving to clean energy or borrowing the dirtiest needle from a fellow addict? That is the question facing President Obama. If he chooses the dirty needle it is game over because it will confirm that Obama was just greenwashing, like the other well-oiled coal-fired politicians with no real intention of solving the addiction. SolveClimate News: Can you give three reasons why the president should follow your advice and reject the request to build Keystone XL? James Hansen: Our children and grandchildren; the other species on the planet; and creation" There you have it, if KeystoneXL is approved it is "game over" for creation. And that is from leading climate scientists. Boom! Mic dropped
  14. It might not lower gas prices, but according to James Hanson who is a Climate Scientist says approval is the Keystone pipeline would result in.. "..the disintegration of the ice sheets would accelerate out of control. Sea levels would rise and destroy coastal cities. Global temperatures would become intolerable. Twenty to 50 percent of the planet’s species would be driven to extinction. Civilization would be at risk... the Western United States and the semi-arid region from North Dakota to Texas will develop semi-permanent drought, with rain, when it does come, occurring in extreme events with heavy flooding. Economic losses would be incalculable. More and more of the Midwest would be a dust bowl. California’s Central Valley could no longer be irrigated. Food prices would rise to unprecedented levels." Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria! I guess we will find out. Did I mention that James Hanson is a Climate Scientist, yes CLIMATE SCIENTISTS
  15. Tell that to the hard hats that will be working on the newly approved Keystone and Dakota pipelines.
  16. None, I have a military retirement, a corporate retirement, several rentals and beer and gas money from running a small drop zone. I am not involved with any oil/gas/coal interests in any way. I am advocating on behalf of the American people as I see it. I have two young children I want them to have a better world than the one I inherited.
  17. Fair warning, I am setting you up for a smackdown. If you want to fall into my hole (again), be my guest.
  18. Prove me wrong, before I have to waste my time. BillV made the assertion, let him prove it.
  19. My math is self evident. I want to see Bill's and your magical thinking.
  20. Here are your "big oil" subsidies "The single largest expenditure is just over $1 billion for the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, which is designed to protect the U.S. from oil shortages. The second largest category is just under $1 billion in tax exemptions for farm fuel. The justification for that tax exemption is that fuel taxes pay for roads, and the farm equipment that benefits from the tax exemption is technically not supposed to be using the roads. The third largest category? $570 million for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program. (This program is classified as a petroleum subsidy because it artificially reduces the price of fuel, which helps oil companies sell more of it). Those three programs account for $2.5 billion a year in "oil subsidies." Oil Subsidies that Liberals Love So why do we still have fossil fuel subsidies? Because almost nobody -- not even Bill McKibben -- wants to get rid of all of the programs that are classified as fossil fuel subsidies. I suspect McKibben would not advocate eliminating the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. Two of the most outspoken Democratic opponents of oil subsidies have strongly defended this particular program -- even though it is classified by the OECD as the 3rd largest petroleum subsidy. When Republicans tried to cut funding for the program, Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., called the proposal an "extreme idea" that would "set the country backwards." Rep. Edward Markey, D-Mass, states on his website that he is a "longtime Congressional champion of providing assistance to low-income families to heat and cool their homes."
  21. Net net, renewables are a drain and oil and gas give back more than they receive. But of course that is math, not your strong suit.
  22. Very true - and even more so for newer technologies, like solar, wind and grid-scale storage. and - cut wages by 30% in the oil industry. - cut service costs by 30% - cut rig lease rates. Devastated balance sheets of the smaller oil companies. and "A report published earlier this month by Haynes and Boone found that ninety gas and oil producers in the United States (US) and Canada have filed for bankruptcy from 3 January, 2015 to 1 August, 2016. Approximately US$66.5 billion in aggregate debt has been declared in dozens of bankruptcy cases including Chapter 7, Chapter 11 and Chapter 15, based on the analysis from the international corporate law firm. Texas leads the number of bankruptcy filings with 44 during the time period measured by Haynes and Boone, and also has the largest number of debt declared in courts with around US$29.5 billion." http://oilprice.com/Latest-Energy-News/World-News/20-Months-90-Bankruptcies-In-North-American-Oil-Gas.html "The recent drop in price have driven out inefficientcys and culled the weaker players, leaving a more robust and productive industry. Simple capitalism." Capitalism is about profit AND loss.
  23. One often-overlooked but very important point, is that break-even costs have fallen as companies have traversed the learning curve. As operators gain experience in optimizing hydraulic fracturing the portion of the break even costs that are a function of the well cost have, and will continue to, decline. The recent drop in price have driven out inefficientcys and culled the weaker players, leaving a more robust and productive industry. Simple capitalism.
