    Close Call

I was using a Rigging Innovations Generra. It is a good container, I think the riser cover came loose on exit. While filming the exit I was in a sit and partial back fly position.

Beer?...wouldn't this be a case like a rigger's save and buy him a bottle. If you really think about it, the TM saved my life.

    Close Call

I had a close call over the weekend. I want to post this experience so that anyone jumping a camera may learn from this. While filming Tandems at my home DZ, and being the only camera man for the day, I was doing back to back loads. On one of the jumps I had to use one of the DZ's rental rigs cause mine wasnt packed yet. Everything was uneventful during the ride to altitude, just the normal conversations on the plane. Shortly after exit, I heard a tapping sound on the back of my camera helmet, I knew that the riser cover had come open. After a few seconds I heard the tapping toward the front of my helmet, thats when I saw the Tandem Instructor give me an OKAY sign with his hand. What he was looking at was my right steering line flapping around my helmet after working loose. His passenger was stable and he continued to watch me and the altitude. A few seconds later he gave me the pull signal. I instantly tucked my chin to my chest and deployed my main. He had waited to signal me until the line moved away from the helmet and went towards the bottom of my pack. The canopy ride and landing were as normal as could be. After reviewing the tape you could see the line and toggle hitting the lens of the camera and fluttering all around the head. I had alot of luck on my side during that jump, but also I had a heads up Tandem Instructor who assessed the situation and gave the pull signal at the right time. So I guess if there is a lesson hidden here somewhere it would be to look out for yourself and definately the other jumpers you are with. If we all look after each other it will keep more of us in the air. Max
  6. The camera will be charged and ready!! It sounds like its gonna be a wild one, but how will we know who each other are? During the day just look for me jumping, blue and white jumpsuit with a white flattop camera helmet with blue flames on it.
  7. okay this may sound wierd since I hardly post anything here but, I will be at Perris this weekend. Ill probably get there around noon on sat and leave around 3 on sun. But Im always ready for a party at the Bomb Shelter.

  11. Just wanted to give you all an advanced notice... Kerry Vail, the owner of Surf Flite Skysurfing Equipment, Keith Snyder, Pro Sky Surfer, and myself, are currently in production of a new instructional video for Skysurfing. This video wont be for sale as far as I know, but once it is completed, I'm sure you could contact Kerry to see how to get a copy if this discipline is something you might be intersted in. Kerry's intent is to promote safety, proper training, and preparation prior to attempting this type of jump. Thanks for listening and Blue Skies!!!
  12. As Kerry stated, please check out his link at http://www.surfflite.com Also, Kerry Vail of Surf Flite, Keith Snyder (AZ Skysurf), and myself are currently working on a new instructional video. Not sure of the release date yet, we are still compling the footage. Proper training is always the best key before attempting this. Blue Skies!!

    Do I owe beer?

okay okay....Ill buy it...Actually I was gonna bring some in anyway, Ive gotten to the point now where I know ive done something that warrants beer. And after all this I learned a new phrase, Ill see if it works.. Bones heal, pain goes away, chicks dig scars, and Glory is forever....

    Do I owe beer?

It a corner piece of the door frame on a cessna 182. the plastic around it worked loose from the wind and exposed the corner. So when I jumped out me leg caught it and left a 3 inch cut on my left calf. I knew I hit it, but didnt know it was cut until I was under canopy. I landed, bandaged it myself, drove myself to the urgent care, got the stitches, drove back to the DZ, and jumped again that same day. Hell, i even found the corner that got me on the plane, it still had a piece of skin hanging from it...lol.

    Do I owe beer?

I will say that this is definately a First for me, but Ive been told that this is NOT a beer first. During a jump over the weekend, I managed to momentarily attach my leg to a sharp piece of the airplane during exit, causing a large cut, my FIRST visit to the doctor (due to skydiving), and 18 stitches. So, is this something I need to take beer for? I am willing, at least it gives me a chance to have a few with my buds....
  18. After discussing it at my home DZ here in AZ, I know that me and atleast one other jumper will do the naked jump. It just depends on when it is. I figure what the hell, it would be a good excuse to go to SoCal.....

    Dropzone....The Movie

Since I havnt jumped in a couple weeks I decided to pump myself up for the weekend by renting and watching Dropzone. Well, I havnt seen this movie since i was a young whuffo myself. Now when I watched it tonight, I noticed all kinds of things wrong with the gear. Didnt anyone working on this film even think about pre-jump inspections. I mean, who were the technical advisors. There was one scene when Wesley Snipes was getting in the plane for his first jump, and the lady with the rig on was talking. The first thing I saw was no main canopy risers and the cutaway housing cables were just hanging there. (kind of made me think of Fandango for a minute....laundry day....lol) Maybe we should have a contest... How many mistakes are in Dropzone the movie? Honestly, if you never noticed before, you have to watch again, and you will see all kinds of stuff. Max Master of All Things
  22. The plane DB Cooper jumped from was a Boeing 727. Thats the same stlye of jet at the WWFC. It is a passenger jet with retractable gear and a stairwell that lowers in the back. Which on the ground actually helps balance the aircraft. Meaning if you dont lower the stairs on the ground, once the people start getting off, the plane is so tail heavy, it will actually lift the nose off the ground. (I've actually seen it happen...) As far as DB Cooper living, nobody knows. I think the only thing that was found on the ground was some of the money. No sign of him.

    New Helmet

Okay, since this forum is about anything, Im gonna take my chance and throw out the fact that my new Bonehead helmet came in today. It took all day (and half the night to set up....due to a few beers) But it finally fits and has eveything ready. Now, my only problem is, I have to wait for the weekend to jump it. Thats when I find out if I sighted the cameras right. (is the box supposed to be backwards???) And yes, I will take a case of beer with me to the DZ, 1st jump on the new helmet. I owe at least that much...... One last thing......I LOVE THIS SPORT!!!!
