  1. Update* I contacted SSK and they're shipping a replacement battery cover free of charge. Viso customer for life!
  2. Yeah, the project is only tentatively scheduled for next year. If I end up with a transfer, obviously that project goes in the toilet.
  3. I live at 9 and Harper right behind South Lake. Trying to bail out of here within the next year to find warmer climate. Hopefully Charleston.
  4. Southeastern Michigan (Detroit suburbs) not known for any natural disasters, and I live in a modest 1950's built home. Not an historic district either.
  5. 22.012 - Residential brick veneer construction, when required. Sec. 25-12. Brick veneer type construction shall be required of any new construction. On single-story structures all sides of the building shall have a full brick veneer finish. On two-story structures all sides of the building shall have a full brick veneer finish to a minimum height of the floor joist of the second floor. Additions to the rear of the property do not require brick veneer. Found it...
  6. I'm just a skypup. So, while I didn't need it to land safely, I didn't know that until I had to actually do it. The really lucky part is that it functioned during the skydive until I was about to pitch anyway.
  7. Not sure. It was relayed to me through my contractor.
  8. Hey folks, just putting feelers out there, as I've heard this is a somewhat common occurrence. On Saturday, I checked my altitude, broke off from formation, tracked away, checked my Viso II again and to my surprise, it was blank. Then it turned back on once I was under canopy at around 3k, but it was displaying 600', and when I landed it was reading -300'. Luckily I was able to follow other traffic in and land safely. When I looked at the altimeter, I found that the battery cover had cracked completely across, close to the screw that holds it on. So my question is: has anyone had this happen? How did you contact L&B to get a new cover? I keep getting redirected to some place called SSK in Lebanon, OH.
  9. I don't live in an HOA. This came from the city. Appreciate the snarky humor
  10. On a small but related tangent, I was just told by my municipality that when I build my new garage, it MUST be accented with brick fascia instead of vinyl siding. These are the kinds of regulations that make my blood boil. There's no reason for it whatsoever except forcing me to adopt the aesthetic that they decide. For the record, my initial design had vinyl siding to match my home, with a 4 foot high (~1.3M for you normal folks) brick fascia to tie into the existing brick on my home.

It doesn't matter. Since Eric Holder did it and was ultimately let off the hook with no punishment, they can do it too. When these people proclaim their principles, they're not being honest. It's that simple. Their principles only go so far as is politically convenient. The only principles left in Washington is whataboutism.
  12. Ugh it's so insulting. History will judge this tangerine rodeo clown for what he is, even if so many people today have found themselves wrapped up in his giant con. It won't age well.
  13. Right, but I think we have entirely too many regulations that protect me from me. That's where I get all libertarian.
  14. Yikes. I halfway agree with you. The half that doesn't says that your freedoms end where mine begin. I should be free from having to worry about breathing the polluted air from the car that you just have to have because it's so friggen sweet. And I don't want my kids to get hit by a projectile meat missile from a car accident if they happen to be near it because a car didn't have seat belts installed. I don't want my neighbor's house that isn't up to code to have a gas explosion that injures or kills my kids while they're playing outside. That said: I don't agree with government regulation that tries to protect us from just being plain stupid or reckless. Regulations should not exist to protect me from me; they should exist to protect me from you though. I hope it's making sense. Words are hard sometimes.

Regardless...800? And they're all career prosecutors. Is there anything even close to something of this magnitude in the entire history of our country? We are indeed living in different times. Integrity is lacking among our body politic. I won't say on both sides, because that creates the illusion that it's 50/50, even split, and false equivalence. I find the Republican party to be vastly more corrupt and ruthlessly screwing us worse than their counterparts. To be clear, I don't think all the problems go away with a Democratic president either. They all need their feet held to the flames. Shit's real bad.
  16. I revealed the basic idea of one insignificant conversation piece of 8:04. Sue me. You'll still enjoy it

Judges get voted in at the lower levels of the court, and work their way up the ladder. Their leanings tend to show through their decisions throughout their career. At the SC level, they're appointed by presidents, who are definitely partisan by nature. So, I'd probably say this is a bad example. I have lots of friends who work for the government. Met a lot of people in my time in service. They are committed to their job, not a political party.
  18. Whaaaa??? Apologies online are weird. You don't have to. We all know what we're getting into on these threads.
  19. Yeah, I think we'd have good debate over beers and end up being pretty chummy in person.

I know Trump would have you believe differently, but there are more public servants who cast aside their political leanings than not. Most take the oath seriously.
  21. I think we're all in agreement here, which is weird. I'm gonna go take a cold shower.
  22. It's not that simple. Social Security is a failing program. The numbers bear that out. Our country is getting dumber. We need to do something about it. It's not inconsistent to say "I'd opt out of this failing program if I could" and "Education needs to be better funded/tuition free because America is getting dumb as sand." At least I don't feel that way. I'm the one who holds those positions, after all.
