  1. Like what? I can't even parse this into anything intelligent.
  2. What got Trump elected is false news, outrage over things that weren't real, the ignorance of voters, the ludicrous Electoral College system, and liberals who didn't like Clinton who stayed home or voted for Jill Stein. History will long record that Trump "won" with the greatest defeat in the popular vote in American history.
  3. Us, you say? Which reality is that you live in, then? Hmm, well, some of us have taken oaths a bit like that. If you're so keen to sacrifice, what have you done about it? By the way, when you refer to "our species", I'm curious, what species are you? How exactly does one go to war with an idea? I'll put on some popcorn for everyone else and give you some time to prepare, Professor.
  4. This is exactly correct - the information the average person knows becomes worthless very quickly as soon as there's even a scant reason to believe they've been captured. All conduct after capture training I've been party to is exactly as described above. A person being subjected to any form of torture will tell you whatever it is they think you want to hear - and they'll usually have some basis for an educated guess at what that is. It will rarely be of any value - indeed even if they tell you something that was true, it's likely no longer of value.
  5. Perris and Ontario are closer than SD, at your level ANY of the tunnel coaches would be fine for your belly work. give a call and ask. If you chose Perris you can try and organise some tunnel sky coaching Ah, I didn't know there was one in Ontario, I'll check them out too. And yes - with 44 jumps and ten minutes of tunnel time, I don't doubt just about any coaching will be valuable! Thanks!
  6. The key question is, has anyone credible done so? The thing about fact checkers broadly is that they work by doing the research and presenting their findings. The overwhelming majority of cases they fact check are pretty simple claims, and the work isn't too complicated. Do some research, prove the claim right, or wrong, or discuss the shades of grey. The right has attacked all sorts of fact checking organizations for the simple reason that it is to them an enormous inconvenience when they can't have someone like Rush or BillO or whoever spew nonsense, and their base believe it without questioning. My favourite example is Snopes, which isn't even mostly political, but it's so efficient in debunking stuff that eventually the right had to attack it as a source. They failed, comically. I have "a clue" about Rush. He's a carnival barker. Intelligent people don't listen to blowhards, who as Wendy so perfectly said, lead them to a conclusion. We tend to take more interest in engaging in discussions to thrash out the truth. That's why talk radio doesn't tend to work for liberals, we're too interested in facts and discourse. It's also the same reason the "fake news" phenomenon doesn't affect liberals nearly as much - we ask enough questions that fake news falls apart pretty quickly.
  7. Top fake news source claims others create fake news. Please Give us an example that backs your assertion. http://www.politifact.com/personalities/rush-limbaugh/ Anyone who says they listen to Rush Limbaugh is self-identifying to me as mouthbreathing moron, and pretty much ends the conversation for me. PolitiFact Is a joke. And you've never listened to Rush Limbaugh. Got it Politifact's a fine site. And I've heard Rush. He insults my intelligence, as do all right wing radio hosts. I'm just not dumb enough to be a conservative I guess. It used to be. Not anymore. And it is a guarantee that you are no where near as smart as you think yourself to be. And niether you or Wendy have listened to Rush. I wait with baited breath to see you justify your comment about Politifact. Good luck. And as I said, my exposure to Rush made clear it was utter nonsense. It's clearly an act for morons.
  8. I don't know how intellectually honest Limbaugh is or isn't. But that's not the point. It's his listeners who simply want to hear what he tells them. They don't care about opposing views or even the truth. They simply want their views and opinions reinforced. That's why it's called an echo chamber. Part of the problem I've noticed with trying to engage in any sort of productive discussion with folks who listen to that kind of stuff is that they only seem to understand the world in terms of absurd reductionism and strawman arguments. And that's what talk radio caters to. For better or worse, far more liberal-minded people seem to a) not all only believe the same things and b) be able to engage in more productive discussion and be more open to different ideas and able to talk them out. I have no doubt there are lots of conservatives who operate that way, they're just totally drowned out by the kind of folk who listen to Hannity, Limbaugh, BillO, and other morons.
  9. I've got a trip to California planned for February 10-15, staying at Elsinore for Flight-101 and 102, and whatever other jumping I can do. I was there in December and the weather was lacklustre to say the least, so I'm interested in a backup plan. So I'm looking for contacts for good coaches in the tube - I know there's Perris, iFly San Diego, don't know what else in the area. I'm a pretty new skydiver so I'm interested in improving my RW belly flying, and figuring out when I'll be good to start learning a bit of freeflying. Any recommendations?
  10. Ramsay isn't terrible, although I'm not a fan of his religious tinge. I worked in that industry for many years before getting a golden handshake to leave, and while some of his information and advice is decent, some of it is cringeworthy - especially when I hear him telling people to use a 12% rate of return to plan their retirement savings. That's a number that isn't realistic for planning generally, definitely isn't for most people. And he pushes a lot of junk product. That said, his approach to getting out of debt makes sense, certainly. Most of the rest of them I listen to for a form of comic relief now and then, mainly because I wish I was devoid of a conscience and the ethics that render me unable to become some kind of right wing or evangelical carnival barker, out fleecing marks.

  12. I've actually contemplated joining to vote for a nutter like Kellie Leitch to make sure they have no chance of winning, but Trump should never have had a chance either...
  13. That's because intelligent people realize that torture isn't useful. It doesn't provide normally useful information.

  15. It definitely, definitely helped me with exits - I kept being unstable on exits and couldn't quite see why, even with some video from the King Air I usually jump from at my "home" DZ. Then I went to Elsinore and at an EXCEL camp (highly recommended, by the way!), I got to see some video jumping from a Caravan (with the much bigger door, the field of view is better - and then I could see *exactly* what the issue is - a last minute "glance" back down (as though to second guess the spot) totally changed how I was presenting to the wind and make me go all over the place. So the suggestion I got was to exaggerate how much I look up - by the second or third jump I tried it, I had a way better feeling of how the relative wind works. Great training tool. I'm sure I'll get the same from the canopy course - if I can see what I'm actually doing it will make it make a lot more sense I'm sure. The landings I stood up were all in pretty good winds at ground level, it was on low winds that I have the worst ones.
  16. Heh. I learned everyone on a Silhouette 230 and my first jump on a zp.exe 215 (like a Sabre 1) I was more than a little nervous landing it - in part because my second PFF jump put me in hospital and out of the game for almost a year. It was actually on a coach jump with Keithor that I took it for the first go, and I slide in the landing crosswind because it was so different in terms of glide slope. I don't see making a major canopy change for quite a while - I've stood up only 3 of 13 jumps with it. I'm taking Flight 101 next month in the hopes of figuring out better landings - I have a feeling I've gone from flaring high to flaring low, but I hope some video and coaching helps with that. I get the impression that trying to do anything in the sport too fast is a dumb idea, and that's definitely the logic I'm sticking with.
  17. I'm interested in this question too - and whether the line will be crossed before Trump voters realize they've been had.
  18. They're currently planning a June opening.
  19. There's every reason to believe that, from all the shootings open carry has stopped.
  20. Now that is just trolling To paraphrase an old quote: "Although it is not true that all Trump voters are stupid people, it is true that most stupid people are Trump voters."
  21. I'll wait to be pleasantly surprised/shocked, but I don't see it happening. Indeed, it's not really him I'm worried about, he'll be marginalized as quickly as possible by the cabinet, the congress, etc. It's the terrible people he's putting into cabinet, and the atrocious ideas Republicans have that they can now move forward on with no checks or opposition.
  22. Wind tunnel time. "Indoor skydiving" it's sometimes referred to as, good place to practice skills for less cost than a lift ticket.
  23. I find if he's referred to as "disgraced war criminal Allen West" or something analogous to that, you're using a factually accurate statement about him to discredit him. And frankly, he generally discredits himself. Here's a good writeup on him. https://angrystaffofficer.com/2016/08/02/a-veterans-response-to-allen-west/?wref=tp
  24. Then leave and deal with your own shit in your own country and leave us to ours. Or Stop your oh so arrogant bitching!!! Sheesh....... Says some guy whining about the horrid "librul media". Problem is that if Trump takes down America, he'll pull the rest of the world with it. I'm married to an American, have lots of family there. In fact, I was about to apply for a green card to follow my wife on a career opportunity, until the election. Lots of people are going to suffer for the next four years - and long beyond, since the effects of bad governance don't magically stop on election day. Hell, America's never recovered from the Reagan disaster, and now they're doubling down on it.
  25. Conservatives saying stupid things like this are why we assume we're right - because this is total crap. He isn't stupid, he's ignorant. He's got to be smart, to be a successful con man for as long as he has been. And he's just conned a bunch of people into putting him into the White House. To be honest, it's hard to cope with being a reasonably well educated and successful person and listening to the constant drone of nonsense from conservatives - the lies their media is full of, the dog whistles, the generally useless opinions of know-nothings. Liberals don't have all the answers, but at least they're not out to rip you off while convincing you it's for your own good.
