  1. Here are the results for the first Meet of the South East 2006 season. We had perfect weather with a light cross wind for all six rounds. Lake Wales did an outstanding job getting the pond ready for the this comp. The pond was full of water with no lip at all and all the sand in the landing area was manacured for the comp. The DZ has a great farm tractor with a disc attachment to creat a soft and smooth landing area. A quad motorcycle is then used with an attachment on the back that drags the sand to make a very professional looking flat landing area for the zone accuracy jumps. Tom Sr. and Tom jr. (1st place) from Lake Wales worked hard before the comp to get the pond ready for action. Ian Bobo was at the comp on the ground for the comp and answered questions all day long and at the end of the day, all the competitors gathered and video debriefed every swoop from the comp with coach Bobo. Alot was learned by all. We saw a lot of new faces for the comp who will be competing for the 2006 season and some old friends returning to the circuit. Congratulations to all who competed. 21 competitors 1st place $300 Tom Delibac 2nd place $200 Keith Mcbeth 3rd place $100 Marat Leiras Meet 2 will be next month in Sebastian Florida on March 18 P.S Hey Clint, you better get down here. Your bro is kickin some ass :)
  2. He will NOT be competing. He will be on the ground and will be watching all the swoops. We will have a dedicated video person for him so he can pay attention to everything going on and then debrief from what he sees and what the video shows.
  3. The southeast CPC will be holding the first comp of the season on Feb 18 Current World Champion Swooper and Performance Designs Factory team member Ian Bobo will be on hand offering free coaching with video debrief to all particiapants of the competition. See you there!
  4. Yes, nice work guys. Congratulations! Have a great 2006!
  5. Hey Katie I'm really glad to hear that you will be competing this year. It should be a good one. You will need to pay your CPC registraion in one district. It has not been decide yet however if people will be allowed to compete in different districts to meet the 3 comp minimum requirement. You, of course, are more than welcome to compete in any comp you want as a guest that you are qualified for, but you will not help your overall regional placing. I will hope if you are planning on going to CO this year that you will try to get to more than just the 3 comp minimum
  6. I know. It really is a difficult decision. But I have met with all of the judges and organizers that are involved with this and this works for them. To do these meets, the courses must be set up on Friday and for the out of town meets our judges are taking Thursday afternoon and Friday off of work for us. I hope you will all thank them when you see them. For the last couple of years I have scrambled to come up with judges sometimes up until the day before the meets. It becomes very very stressful. Something that gets old very fast. I would have to train new people at every meet and then worry that they are scoring everyone right and that the video guy does not miss a swoop or something. We have an excellent team of judges this year who have commited to the whole season. Kolla and Lara and Jennifer and Robin Miller for video and Justin Carmody taking still photos have all commited to every meet. Please understand that we as swoopers are very lucky to have these people involved with our meets and I have discussed these dates and locations with them. Trust me I know how you feel. I have been traveling on the Pro Tour now for the last couple of years and there is nothing I would like more than to not have to take an airline and get a rent a car and get a hotel and pay expensive registration costs, food on the road etc.etc......To me, I would not trade it for anything. It is part of the journey of our lives. The DZ's that we are using are supporting us greatly. We have done meets there in the past and in my opinion they are the best locations for these meets for this year. We are going into our third year here so let's have a good one. Chris
  7. Here is the schedule for the 2006 season 1 Feb 18 Lake Wales 2 March 18 Sebastian 3 April 15 Z-Hills 4 May 13 The Farm 5 June 17 Lake Wales They are all on water except Sebastian. Wendy and the crew from Sebastian have supported us well over the last couple of years and we look forward to returning this year.
  8. We are training in Lake Wales There were six swoopers training last weekend Everyone is welcome The speed, distance and zone acc courses are set up on the pond There is a video person available There is transportation to and from the pond You can bring your own coach or just come and jump So far two people have bought a block of 100 hop and pops We will do between 200-300 over the course of these camps Lets Go! Feb 3-5 Feb 10-12 March 3-5 March 10-12 April 7-9 April 28-30
  9. When we started the Florida league a couple of years ago, like all of you we talked about yearly registration fees and individual comp fees. It was decided that we would charge a $40 registration fee for the season and a $75 registration fee per comp. It seemed like a fair deal for everyone involved. The $40 from everyone at the beginning of the season was used to buy all of the course materials to set the courses up and get everything needed to set up a competition before the season started. It ended up costing about $400 for everything. Any money that was left over from that went to the championship trophy at the end of the season. 2004 was a trophy for Ian Bobo and 2005 was the belt for Tyler Lawson. The $75 that was collected from each competitor at each meet went directly into the meet. The first expenses that came out went to pay for travel and expenses for judges and camera crew and for any food and accomadations, gas that were needed in case the crew had to travel. And unless you plan on doing all of your events at one place eventually you will have to travel to do some comps. In some cases if the attendance was low, the registration fees barely covered the hard costs of the event. In some cases when attendance was high there was money left over at the end of the comp. This is the money that gets put back into the comp in the form of prize money. Now of course one option would be to wait until you get to a meet and see how many people show up, then calculate all of your costs and set a different registration fee per comp to cover costs to make sure that you don't have to actually charge your judges money to come and judge for you in the way of them paying for their own gas and food and stuff. This sounds complicated and it is also better for all of your competitors to know how much to expect to spend ahead of time for each comp. Now if $75 sounds too high for registration and you lower it of course you risk as an organizer having to pay for expenses out of your own pocket if attendance is low or you travel to a place and get some bad weather or whatever. And if you can find judges that will stay with you for a whole season and take time off work and pay their own way, then you are lucky and you should thank them on a daily basis. Also a paid coach could be used to come to your meet which is a good idea, but you have to make sure you have enough to pay him and all the expenses. Sponsor money for the events is a good idea if you can get it. So whatever way you decide to use the money from the registration costs, if after you have paid all the expenses and paid the coach and everyone is happy and you have money left over, I recommend you give it back to the winners of your comps to help them out a little with their expenses too. If there is no money left over then there is no prize money. It's kind of like a little friendly game of poker. It's usually not a lot of money, but it just makes things a little more interesting. "PRIZE MONEY IN AMATEUR SPORTS" Try not to make into something it's not.
  10. $165 is the cost for a 6 jump meet including jumps. This cost does vary a little depending on jumps prices. It is the cost of 6 hop and pops at $15=$90 plus a $75 registration. $165 So basically you are paying $75 to be judged and have a team of people working for you to set up courses and judge and video your swoops and give you your scores at the end of the day. Actually that is a good deal to swoop with your peers in a competition environment. Currently some DZ are charging as much as $17 for 5000 ft hop and pops, but I have talked with them and secured us $15 slot prices for our comps here. And yes it is difficult to find, train and keep a good team of judges that will stay with us for the whole season and the $75 comp registration money from each competitor goes to their expenses first. In some cases our judges, who have real jobs, will be taking time off work to travel to come and do these events for us. They require gas money, hotel and food for the event. It is very very very difficult to find good help and then expect them to pay for themself. This year we have a dedicated team of judges including a video person and a still photographer that will be attending all of these events. These are the most important people in the event and their availability and willingness to travel determines the event dates and locations. So we pay their expenses and some extra compensation for their time and anything left over from the $75 goes directly to prize money. It cost about $350-400 per comp for a good team of judges that has to travel and take time off of work. So it takes a minimum of 5 competitors at $75 registration just to pay for them to show up. My time has always been donated.
  11. ***Does the jumper need to make three competitions in a given "home" district or can it be three competitions no matter where they are just as long as they competed in three sanctioned CPC competitions. This is a very iteresting thought. Now that it's not only the top 5 competitors from each district it could conceivably work. As long as you paid your registration fees in one district, and you competed in at least 3 CPC sanctioned events, regardless of district, you would be eligible for Colorado. This of course would hurt peoples overall standings in their own districts for the Regional Champion, but would still qualify people for the National Event. Hope to see ya in Lake Wales
  12. The new rule is: All registered CPC members who compete in at least 3 events in their region are eligible for Colorado.
  13. First, you are all and have always been a big part in the evolution of the sport of swooping particularly here in Florida with us. You guys know who you are. So let's keep moving forward together. Here is what we have done in the past and what I propose to do to move us forward. Allow pros and amateurs to compete in regional comps with everyone eligible for prize money. I feel it is important for a number of reasons to have prize money available in the amateur comps for both classes. I think it benefits pro and amateur swoopers in this scenario. It attracts Pro competitors in hopes that our sport can somehow help to financially support more Pro Swoopers other than just coaching fees and gives amateurs a chance to compete with and learn from a pro in an actual competition environment. We all know that one competition jump is equal to about 20 practice jumps so a competition fee of $165 is well worth the price of the experience for an amateur swooper to swoop in an organized comp, especially if there is a pro present, without considering who is winning the money. The amateur gets his money's worth and both classes are getting more comp experience without having to travel too far. I think it's a win win. And with the sytem we have used, we have seen more than one amateur winning prize money. We basically have two course set up simultaneosly for a competition. One has 5 ft gates and one has 10ft gates. It's sort of a handicap situation. The 5' gates are 12' wide (pro) and the 10' gates are 24' wide. So for distance There are 4 entry gates set up in line. The 10' gates on the outside (24' wide) with the 5' gates set up in between (12' wide). The 10' gates have about a 30% advantage over the 5' gates. This means that if both competitors hit their perspective gates at the same speed and angle, the 10' gate would go say 300', the 5 gates would only go 210' It is a distinct advantage which should be considered when thinking about peoples distance performances. Was it a 5' gate or a 10' gate? With this Jay's 678' swoop on a 10 ft gate would have been about 881' Works the other way too. If his 678' ft swoop was on a 10' gate in would have only been around 475' on a 5' gate The speed course actually has three differences. Gate height, width and length. There is a 24' wide 185' long speed course set up with 10' gates for the amateur but there are also 5' entry and exit gates set up 15' before the 10'entry and 15' after the 10' exit creating a 215' pro course with 5' entry and exit gates. We have done this in the past and it has seemed to work well. It creates an even playing field challenging for both classes. And with the percentage scoring system it seems to be a very competitive handicap when scoring both classes against each other. Keep in mind there are vertical extensions for the 5 ft gates so the pro has to stay low through the course while not catching an endcell on the 10' gates. It is challenging, but not unsafe for a Pro swooper. Of course you know that guys flying the 10' gates stay high. Zone accuracy has the same entry gates as the distance. Amateur has 10' high and 24'wide entry gates while the pro has 5' high and 12' wide gates to hit. All competitors must drag water for points and not get a vertical extension penalty on the first water gate to get a score. This has seemed to work well too. We have actually in the past not even included the vertical requirement for the first gate to get a score. This helps with less zeros and does not have people really driving at the first gate especially in high head wind conditions where the concern is getting the first gate then flying the rest of the 175'to the first zone to get any score. So 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place overall regardless of class get paid but, the highest placing amateur gets 1st place points towards the overall league championship. We will use this format again this year. It has been tried and proven, so unless Jim says otherwise we will use it again. So now... this year maybe we should allow top 10 CPC competitors to compete again in the CPC if they want as registered CPC competitors competing for the overall regional and national titles and eligibility to go to Colorado, but they are required to hit 5' gates using this handicap system. Of course we also need to get some commitment from some guys to go Pro and attend the pro comps or it will just fade away.
  14. ***top 10 pilots, who dont go pro and stay in the cpc for the second year, run 5 ft gates and still acru points, if they qualify for finals, they run 5ft gates. if they get top 10 again for the second year in a row, 2nd year on 5 footers, then they get there pro card handed to them. ***Doesn't sound unreasonable to me. Seems like a bit of a logistical nightmare but still at least it changes the rules for 'repeaters' This sounds interesting.... The deal is that everyone who joins the CPC and attends at least 3 meets is eligible to go to Colorado. Maybe we should keep points for the guys who are hitting the 5 foot gates and they would be eligible to go back to CO and still be competing for the regional championship and the 2006 Belt. It would be great practice for the pro comps??
  15. Ian Bobo kicked all of our assed two years ago in this league down here, now it's all you guys. So let's go. It's your turn. All registered CPC members who attend 3 meets are eligible to go to Colorado this year. It is not only the top 5.
  16. We will allow pros to compete and be eligible for prize money the same as we have always done at our meets here. All of you guys who have competed here with us in the past know the drill. You have all been involved in discussions about this with our group from the south east that have been doing this for three years now and I think everyone still agrees. Pros or top 10 CPC will hit 5 ft gates and be eligible for prize money. Amateurs will use the 10 ft gates and are also eligible for prize money and will acrue points. The top amateur finsher in the comp will receive 1st place points towards the overall South East Championship and the 2006 Championship Belt. You all know our prizes vary depending on attendance, but here is an idea. If we get 20 competitors the prize money will be 1st $700 2nd $400 3rd $200 I haven't released the rest of the schedule yet, but some locations will be putting up some cash too so there could be more Round 1 Lake Wales Feb 18 Hope to see and fly with you all!!
  17. Ya perfect. Should be a good season for us here in the South East CPC. You can fill out the stuff when you get here. See you soon!
  18. You can use this form and mail it to the address on the form.
  19. Competition costs will be the same as last year. $65 registration for the year. This is for members who are planning on competing for the season and the overall Florida championship and who are planning to attend the Colorado event. Competition fees will be $75 registration per comp plus the cost of 6 jumps ($165) Some DZ's are charging more than $15 for hop and pops now, but I am working it out so that it will be $15 for our comps.
  20. OK here we go. We will be starting a little earlier this year. I am only going to post the first date for right now as it is confirmed. We are still working on some of the other location details, but for now Round 1 of the Florida CPC will be February 18 at Lake Wales More info soon
  21. Lenthening lower A and lower C lines will make a canopy steeper as will longer risers. This can become a very dangerous situation. Be careful out there and watch out for the planet!
  22. I'm thinking about adding a 4wayVRW comp to the Skyquest event next year in November in Florida. They have the NSL 4way championships there and I think it would be a good place to have a comp for the VRW. Chris
  23. I couldn't find one with a spinner on it. FLCPA 2004 Bobo 2005 Lawson who's gonna get the belt for 2006 Check it out
