FYI! If you should come to Florida, there are some DZ's that I highly recommend you try. Williston and Palatka. Btoh of which are smaller DZ's that generate enough business to make plenty loads, but hold that "at home" atmosphere. Both get larger airplanes every now and then, and both have there own C182's. I grew up at both of them, though there has been some changes in both... I love the people at both, and have a family that I consider much more close then a blood relative at both. Hey, I understand why you would be cautious to jump again... I had the same thing happen not soo long ago, in the incident post, named "head down on opening." In case you have trouble finding it, here are the details. "All right, I had a bad week, and was soo looking forward to 2days at the DZ. First jump on Saturday, I finnaly got to use a smaller canopy. I have 15 jumps, and weight 100lbs.. I had been jumping a 220. Yesterday, I jumped a brand new Sabre 170. The Skydive itself went great! I went to pull, went almost head down, had an extremely hard opening... And got knocked unconscious. When I woke up, I couldn't see anymore... My right arm was trapped above me, in what I will never know. After a few yanks I got it down. I had much trouble finding my brakes, but finally got them. I couldn't see anything but slight color differences. I didn't know my altitude, nor did I know where I was in the sky. I made a 90 degree turn about 100, not realizing where the ground was, and as the heel of my foot, already in front me, hit... I flared. Needlessly to say, my flare was a little too late. I hit the ground, bounced about 2ft in the air, busted my pants open... And fell over. About 30secs later I had my boyfriend and anouther insrtuctor (by the way is a EMT) by my side. I still had no sight, and was VERY sore. I then was taken to the hospital, and good news... NOTHING BROKE. My leg has gashes missing, as well as my side, my chin and my arm. I can now see again, but I'm very tender. Lesson to be learned: Don't go head down. To all my Palatka people, see you this weekend in the air. " I hope you stick with it, I really do... Hey, I'm a new skydiver w/ only 15 jumps... Though I did AFF, I'm sure static line can have it's benefits. I personally went for AFF because I felt it gives you an all around wealth of knowledge. My boyfriend is standing over my shoulder as I speak this, an insturctor for both AFF & SL, and is lecturing me on the importance and knowledge that can be obtained from both... He feels that AFF gives you a good feel for body position, while SL teaches canopy skills better. As said above, I have very little experince to go on, but I feel that AFF is the way to go. ROFL!!!! That's great... Atleast I'm not alone. Yeah, I've had some good landings aswell, but the one I was first referring to was kind of not all my fault. I was headdown on opening and it was a EXTREMELY hard opening, so it knocked my nogin, rendering me unconscious and when I regained consciousness I was blind... So needlessly to say... I had no clue where the ground was, as my landing gave evidence of! ...Though I don't promote excuses, so I'll just sum the jump up by saying I suck really bad (sometimes)! Yea, funny thing is... One of my instructors is my boyfriend. I'm pretty skinny, and after he makes a jump with me, along with any of my other instructors, they're all soo soar from trying to de-arch so much! ...Not to mention doing a mid-air tumble in efforts to save my life! While all of you may have wonderful office supplies (i.e. 3hole punch, stapler) I have the ultimate office supply... A see through notebook, and it comes in handy when you put some "personal papers and pics" (yea, lets leave it at "personal papers & pics") and you go into a meeting with your boss, convinced that you have everything stowed away for total descreteness... Ahh Yes! FKF! Yes, I believe I too have damn near pulled that one off. Sorry, no video... Thank god. Though I do have the hospital papers to prove how effective BOKYAG landings are... Ouch! Not to mention the constant reminders of how graceful my landings can be, from my fellow skydivers. On another note... My 4th jump, I pulled off head down, unfortantly it was only for about 1.5 secs and resulted in my instructor getting the ride from hell! Yes, I know, I'm an over-achiever! That was a fun jump, I pulled off head-down, like 12 miscellaneous back and front flips, some back to earth moves, and this really funny look on my face, oh not to mention the look on my instructors face! Funny thing is, I didn't even try to do the highly skilled (syke!) moves... In fact I wasn't even aware I WANTED to do them! ...Unfortantly there is video of this fuster-f*ck and it has become a permanet part of "Skydiving Don'ts" at Palatka! Laughing! ...So for those of you that will remember my name, when I have like 2000 jumps... Just tell me I'm full of sh*t when I say I was just a "natural"! In my diligent studies, and excessive jumps (total of 14--Laughing!), I have discovered a new method of landing... No longer do we need to practice PLF's! This new, exciting plan is referred to as BOKYAG... It was first done and documented by me. "Bend over & kiss your ass goodbye" Though I must admit it looked much more like bouncing tumble, I stick to my original story that I was simply kissing my ass goodbye. Flyingbird! I have a tattoo on my hip of a little pig devil (not satanic at all), and I like that it's easy to cover, and that I don't have to dress, nor do my hair accordingly. If it's showing, then I'm not dressed professionally, rather in a cutoff tee. Though, I would warn her, getting one on your hip area can hurt really really bad. I kind of did my on a whim. After a skydive, I got drunk, gathered a bunch of DZ pals & my unaccepting boyfriend, and had it done. Luckily I had wanted that exact tattoo for years. For every first... there is a case of beer!
