  1. Ooopps ... well you know that they say about great minds etc Besides - youve been using my line 'Worlds Largest' Is that just 6 people you have in there? Nice poster btw! wanna do one for us too? Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  2. Speaking of video, here's a little initial compilation we have got together thanks to our friend Billy. www.bodyflight.co.uk/video/bedfordvideo1.wmv Shows a bit of the testing (errr ok initial playing) that we have done. Enjoy!
  3. It really isnt hard to understand why time is not as cheap as a plate of chips. Some very easy sums on the kind of money needed to construct and operate a tunnel will give you an idea that each facilitiy you visit isnt making extreme profits... to work it out ask for a figure on a £2-3m mortage and see what it costs you I have said before - Starting a wind tunnel is not the easist investment choice or the best paying one. For me a good percentage of the risk is worth it becuase of what we create and not the size of the payback. I can understand the desire to fly more and for cheaper... but there is also a need to cover the cost of providing what has to be one of the most expensive tools for any sport!
  4. Ok Ok - threats get you results for sure although I am not sure there is a financial level to my being banned so dont even think about blackmail for tunnel time Following snaps also for you (we are a little busy testing, erm ok - playing to setup anything too fancy but we have some good photo shoot bits planned for tomorrow) www.bodyflight.co.uk/fly2.jpg www.bodyflight.co.uk/fly3.jpg www.bodyflight.co.uk/fly4.jpg We will build an 8-way donut or something like tomorrow so that you can get a true perspective of the chamber size Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  5. Well - its been 3 years for me... but today made the waiting worthwhile. We have been flying in our tunnel, and am I pleased to say it performs as good in reality as we thought it would on paper. The air was amazingly smooth, the power with great range.... and the excitment of our team incredible. Here is a photo of Bernd having a play, we will take some good quality photos etc for the site in the next day or so. Now - we are making our opening party on the 17th September and will be inviting people for a few preview flights before then. The opening party is by invitation only so email us if you want to be in for a ticket. So hopefully we will get to share some air with you all soon. ps Please dont phone to book time etc yet - We will start accepting bookings next week. http://www.bodyflight.co.uk/fly.jpg Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  6. Ok peeps - we have had a busy day! I am pleased to say for the first time we have had our prop spinning and it was an awesome thing to see... We have done the initial test runs - so tomorrow we do more with the windspeeds getting cranked more and more as we go.... will post some pics after work tomorrow..... As for the whole exchange rate debate - there are a few things to consider :- - the exchange rate hasnt always (not even close!) or always will be 2-1 or there abouts! for the longest time it stuck around the 1.40 mark... so at the moment it sucks to spend here I guess - Our hourly price currently starts at £600 and decreases based on volume.... this is unique I believe. - over here we have alot more to pay when it comes to VAT etc... check out hamburger prices as a good comparison - Our tunnel shouldnt evenly be compared to Orlando or Eloy to a certain extent. We have over 3 times the air volume of a 12ft tunnel! our motors are bigger in proportion. Do you pay the same for a bus as you do for a mini? So in short... our bulk rates come close to evens with the cost of flying in the US but you get a little more space for your buck so to speak...
  7. Bulk discounts are given at the time of purchase so you would need to buy hours together.... If you just turned up and flew an hour - then the next hour was available and you flew that too you may have a discussion with reception at the time, after all its not about nit picking! lol Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  8. LOL ! Not at all... must have missed it in the clutch of other questions... I would have answered because we are not a million miles off. Our final delivery arrived yesterday - the bearing part to connect our propeller. Today we have installed this and are in the process of clearing out the tunnel ready for the wind to blow (it has to be clean or it could hurt a little!). Final strands going into our sprung net.. and a touch of last minute paint as we take our maintenance platform out the bottom. Given this we have sceduled our first switch on with our colleages from Switzerland arriving here on Monday morning... If all goes to plan - and we have not too much tweaking etc we need about 2 weeks of general tidyup before we let people in. Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  9. We have some awesome freefly coaches on staff - and have also spoken about external coaching with alot of the best known competitors globally. We are arranging training camps and dates at the moment and will publish these in the coming weeks. Our own team includes Michi Sadner, Rob Silver and Bernd who all can do the business when it comes to freefly training. ... or of course you can bring your own Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  10. Despite the electricity being slightly cheaper at nights - this trades off with unsocial hours / staff cost etc so if demand is high we could look to extend... but unlikely it would make a big difference to pricing.
  11. Offpeak is Mon-Fri 9-5pm for 10 hours £420 per hour Peak time £510 per hour for a 10 hour booking.
  12. You book the time - you do what you like with it! - so should you want 12 friends to fly... thats OK! (provided they are not first time flyers and require initial instruction and kit etc!)
  13. Hi, Membership is a one off thing - and you need to have flown with us at least an hour before you can join. There are alot of benefits to membership... cheaper flights / invitational events / cost DVD recording to name but a few.... No - we offer anything from 1 to 10 hours as a bulk purchase. Prices decrease based on volume with £600 per hour as our initial starting point... the more you buy the cheaper you fly! Yes - the more people you get in there the cheaper / more fun you are likely to have! the only restriction is safety based so all flyers need to demonstrate competence before flying with others or larger formations - much like the sky really. Hope this helps
  14. We are going to be attending the nationals at Hib again this weekend - although the offer has now closed... for those of you that wanted to buy some time but missed out you can do so in person by saying Hi to us on Saturday... this is our last DZ visit before opening so really is a one off chance. Phone bookings have now ended. The excitment around the offer has been great to see and I am really looking forward to seeing you all flying shortly - with the number of you we have already liased with our first few months are going to be busy for sure. Our site is starting to transform greatly at the moment while all the tools/boxes etc are cleared to leave each new area ready for people and with the first flight only days away I am getting my jumpsuit washed! Just hoping for better weather this weekend - want to sit in the sun and watch some good competition!
  15. We are working on it Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  16. Hey ppl .. Just in case any of you didnt notice a drain on the grid... our motor was spinning yesterday yay! 11000V connected and we had motion.... All went to plan and I was astonished just how quiet it was! although its the prop that makes the noise so that would be reasonable! Our prop is installed now too - so over the next few weeks we will be checking things out and performing our first flights soon. With an opening date getting nearer all the time... Will put some more pics on our site soon
  17. Took delivery of a small addition to our tunnel - if you wanna see our motor clicky! http://www.bodyflight.co.uk/images/motor.jpg And no going green with motor envy Dawn Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  18. Currently there are none. Shortly there will be one... (we plan to open to the public in August with test and preview flights in July) - our motor arrived yesterday! - yippee.. Then there will be two Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  19. For fear of invoking a swarm of ... me me me's..... yes we have - and its likely to be the format of our invitation launch party. We aim to open with a bit of a celebration and a day at least of flying / socialising and general get the place off to the right start fun. Not sure exactly how many invites will go out yet (havent got the safety numbers from the fire officer yet!) but should be good I hope
  20. Well, all I will say on the matter is that the operating costs sure do increase! We are quite lucky with our location - and power supply... I doubt many places could easily be fed with the size and cost of supply needed. Our chiller system alone consumes as much power as a standard tunnel would (give or take a bit) I have said before - I doubt we would have built this big if we had to start from scratch... but as Paige observed no build costs makes it possible.
  21. I think its fair to charge the people that use the systems.... and not overcharge others to compensate... ie.. if I use it 10 times - and someone else uses it once... I pay more! Not sure it needs to be a big charge for a video system (although ours is damn expensive!)
  22. Have to say I dont think its that harsh to charge for this! the video equipment didnt pay for itself!... although you could argue for the charge maybe a better camera and quality may be in order. Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  23. Ok Ok ... I am not a betting man but I would put you money on the sheet of metal making a difference! lol Think of air as you would water (fluid and aerodynamics are the same bag) does the water from a shower head converge over space? air does much the same... if you have a hole or faster air in one place it doesnt easily correct itself. Simply put - they dont! They wear weights - they change body position and need to do exactly the same things in the tunnel..... hence 2-levels would need to be well co-ordinated on speed setting.
  24. There are a few basic problems with these statements. Speed and volume are different - yes quite true... but when you have a flow of air (constant) the volume that flows is in ratio with the speed of flow... so you cannot 'adjust' one without the other.... more airspeed - higher volume of flow... etc. Secondly... you could consider the first flight area to be the air intake of the second... if I were to place a big sheet of metal slanting to one side in the airflow of the first area - absolutely the people in the second would notice higher speeds to one side than the other. You could probably argue that four peoples bodies cannot make a noticable enough difference but its not right to say they make no difference.... and I would have thought that you would be able to notice slightly (if I were a betting man!)
  25. ***That's why at AAC when I fly with 95 lb Rox and 170 lb Chris and my 130 lb frame.. we all fly together... Ok this I really dont follow. If you all hold similar body positions no way you are on the same level.... sure you can arch more / sit further back etc etc and keep flying together.... but thats not really the point... If you have a group wanting to do 4-way on level 1 and a group wanting to freefly level 2 it doesnt work surely? If you have me a big porker wanting to fly on my belly and a small 14 year old wanting to do the same you dont tell the kid to arch more surely? Am I missing the point? - And Airspeed and volume are directly linked so not sure what that means either? (probably having a blonde moment) Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
