  1. They are legit,, Ladies Home Journal Jan 1971, Gunther article based on the 1962 one but reversed for women to disappear. and True mag Jan 1962, Gunther article referred to in the letter “Do-It-Yourself Divorce for Fed-Up Males” I have them packed away somewhere... Gunther also wrote for Playboy..
  2. Maybe the letter writer is just trying to sell his story to Gunther by emphasizing elements that he believed would appeal to Gunther's ego, it may not be true at all.. That would work for the real Cooper or a hoaxer..
  3. The charity was a ruse to get attention, he admitted that he really wanted the money.. and the "Cooper" was local to New York.. as for the article in a Women's mag, maybe he saw it at a Dr or Dentist office.. I don't think there is anything there to discount it..
  4. Do you have the date on that? As the years passed passed they became more aggressive claiming Cooper died.
  5. At some point there was a shift and the FBI really tried to sell, the Cooper died narrative..
  6. It appears he typed an "x" half space then an "o" then double over the "x"
  7. Or perhaps he typed an "x" and an "o" to correct/hide the "D"
  8. It is an "o" with a missing top... the "u" doesn't fit but the small "o" does..
  9. Here, Cossey was called and asked for two front chutes and two backs,, he didn't know what they were for.. but he arranged for them to be picked up at Issaquah.. But before they were picked up the backs were obtained from Hayden.. Emrick who was first notified to get all four chutes then only supplied the two fronts.. So, Cossey initially believed all four chutes sent to Cooper were his from Issaquah.. He was called and told which chutes remained in the plane and he gave a description of the chute he believed Cooper used... he was wrong.. he must have figured out id error at some point but never corrected it and lied to cover it up. They were looking for the wrong chute...
  10. That wasn't their motivation... The guy claiming to be Cooper wanted only money from the writers/publishers,, and the "Clara" wanted to publicize that Cooper died and was really a good guy.. The "Cooper" was to provide convincing info but disappeared and never did.. "Clara's" story is tougher as it seems to be a blend of facts and fiction. They wouldn't need to ID themselves, just providing info only Cooper would know would suffice.
  11. The person claiming to be Cooper was trying to sell his story to several writer/publishers anonymously.. If he and Clara were actually legit they would not give info that could ID them..
  12. Here is the Elsinore walk back.... "may be coincidental" and resembled Sketch "A"... IMO, Elsinore is a red herring..
  13. If he did it for money and lost it,, selling his story would get him money.. It only makes sense if he lost the money..
  14. It may be that Cooper lost the money in the jump and contacted several writer/publishers to sell his story anonymously... or a hoax..
  15. Yes, I can confirm that the photo did not turn out..
  16. I have never heard of Gunther writing about the first contact before,,, he does claim that he and the others contacted believed it was a hoax... suggesting his opinion was changed due to Clara's contact. But, as I tried to say. Elsinore was not mentioned in the Gunther book, a jump close to LA was. LA may have been made up to replace another location, a made up coincidence or something Gunther read. I know others use it to support the legitimacy of Gunther's book, I just don't think it is significant. Since we know some of the book is fabricated and from Gunther's research I try to evaluate it from the 10,000 foot level and not get too focussed on the small details. That will drive you crazy. One other note.. if "Cooper" contacted others, were they also asked to respond in the Village Voice somehow.. in a letter "he" acknowledged that "Dear group" .. "I hope to be in contact with all of you again", so we saw Max's response but there would have been responses from the others somewhere.. I have tried to find old issues of Village Voice online, there are a bunch on internetarchive but not in March '72.. This might be a way to confirm the Cooper part... if we can find other responses.
  17. Gunther was a prolific writer, he didn't need a Cooper piece per se. It was too big a risk to make up Carla and submit it to the FBI for evaluation.. no way.. lying to the FBI is serious stuff. Carla, however, would not talk to the FBI and that suggests she was not being completely truthful. So, if it was a hoax it wasn't Gunther. I don't think it is a crime to hoax a writer without demanding money... As for Elsinore, I am not a fan of the connection as many others are. It isn't actually mentioned in Gunther's book, names and places would have been changed.. LA area may be a random coincidence or come up in Gunther's research. Lyle Cameron made the initial report of somebody possibly being Cooper at Elsinore but after the FBI got serious he walked it back dramatically.. (it is in the FBI files). I think he embellished his encounter with that guy at Elsinore then got scared when the FBI took it seriously. It would have been great publicity. As for the timeline, I have a working theory with supporting evidence that fits it all... explains the 10 year gap and motivations. So, IMO, if there is a hoax it wasn't Gunther. He was contacted by the real Cooper/Clara or a couple of hoaxers. It was just too risky for Gunther to submit fake evidence to the FBI risking both his reputation and career. No way he would do that for a book.
  18. Gunther is not a reporter and he admits it may all be a hoax though he believes it was Cooper. Gunther mixes his research on the case with "Clara's" accounts and clearly both have errors.. The FBI thought it was a hoax not based on evidence for a hoax but lack of evidence for legitimacy. So, where is the hoax then.. Gunther was contacted by somebody claiming to be Cooper.. most likely true. Gunther was contacted 10 years later by a "Clara".. probably true. Gunther did case research and incorporated it.. there were some obvious errors. The person claiming to be Cooper was motivated by money.. But, Clara's motivation was different.. something changed in the 10 years... it was to publicize via Gunther that Cooper was dead and he was a actually good guy, this is an attempt to rehabilitate Cooper's public image and close the search for him.. with that agenda Clara's account can be somewhat made up, embellished or twisted enough to hide real identities. So, hoax or not?? Is Clara's agenda consistent with a hoaxer, not really. She didn't ask for money and seemed to be trying to end the search for Cooper. So, if there is a hoax it was both the initial "Cooper" and "Clara" a decade apart with the final agenda to end the search for Cooper.. Who would have that motivation and why? Somebody or group trying to establish a false public narrative. The real Cooper still alive and an associate would be more likely than a hoaxer... any others? I do have some very interesting evidence but we need more to determine if it was a hoax or not which is why I did a FOIA. Ciu Bono??
  19. The problem with inventing the Clara part is that the FBI and FBI agent Himmelsbach were contacted by Gunther and "Clara" and that would be a serious crime risk for Gunther to fake for a story.. if caught he could be charged but his reputation as a writer would be damaged. I don't see it.
  20. Where do you get V2 from... there is no V2.
  21. Braden was the badass of badasses.. and that is one of the reason's he wasn't Cooper.. Cooper was not a baddass.. There is no evidence Cooper lived or worked in the area.. you are playing your amateur mentalist Elvis trick to direct a false narrative.. and why did he prefer jumpsuits in the 70's anyway.. and Ulis engages in the same fallacy... claiming no evidence was found on the flightpath so it must be wrong.. his main argument for the Western Flight Path, classic Ulis false logic. First, we don't know if nothing was found.. we only know that nothing was reported and confirmed. Something could have been found and never reported. There were chutes found that were dismissed based on Cossey's wrong description. Money could have been found and not turned in. And, not having anything found or reported does not mean Cooper didn't jump on that path.
  22. Dr Edwards amended his blog post to incorporate what we discussed about the stews and the sketch.. that sketch B was based on KK5-1.. but he still missed two things.. No way Tina saw his profile only, how could she prefer sketch A if she only saw his profile.. she is not being honest about seeing only the profile. The FBI relied on her to vet suspect front face images.. that "profile only" statement from Tina discredits her and creates profound problems for the FBI and their investigation. And, sketch B was a process that began at KK5-1 with input and changes by the witnesses over months,, Tina claiming she preferred sketch A vs B was not the final sketch B but earlier in the process, you can tell by the date. The final sketch B was generally agreed on by all the witnesses. So, Dr Edwards conclusion that sketch B is no good is not valid. His premise is incorrect. Tina's rejection of sketch B was not the final one but an early iteration. https://www.goodreads.com/author_blog_posts/22993348-d-b-cooper-and-flight-305-that-s-not-him
  23. Can't get anything past you...
  24. Somebody claiming to be Cooper contacted Max and other writer/publishers in 1972.. the person wanted money for telling his story.. then within months he suddenly dropped off and disappeared. Then, 10 years later a "Clara" contacted Max and told her story by phone over several months.. Her agenda seemed to be to claim Cooper had died and that he was a good guy, she didn't ask for money. So, Max wrote it all up admitting that it may be a hoax, though he feels there is something legit about it. He leaves it for the reader to decide. IMO, these people contacted Max, it can't be easily dismissed as a hoax. If legit, Clara's story may still be a partial fabrication to hide their identities.. There is information in there that is not correct but much of it is.. both Clara and Max blended fact and fiction.. it is hard to sort out. But obtaining the notes Max sent to the FBI may help determine if it was a hoax or not. If it wasn't a hoax, I may have identified a person who could have been Clara. Also, if it was really Cooper and he was asking for money then he would have lost the ransom in the jump... Read the book,, if it is a hoax by the people who contacted Max then there is nothing to be gained.. but if it was Cooper then it is avenue of investigation.. What makes it strange, if it was a hoax is Clara's motive, she never asked for money, she wanted to establish a public narrative via Max,, Cooper was dead and he was actually a good guy.. My take is, he really was alive so don't look for him...
