So tell us about this "USPA lawsuit".

See, that's why I'm not posting mine; y'all are just too damn nosey. :P

I thought perhaps 'Twardo was organizing his own class-action suit, and this was his subtle way to recruit participants.;)

Even if Cooper were an experienced jumper I think he'd do a very short delay before deploying his canopy. If you didnt know for sure if the main canopy was sleeved, you wouldnt want to risk a terminal velocity deployment.

Hint: Go back and look at his exit speed. A delay would have been advised to slow him down.

No idea. He was admitted to the bar in 1967, so he may have been to busy to enjoy the '60's.[:/]

I wasn't enthusiastic about his campaign, but on paper his qualifications look more impressive than someone like Obama.

I'm glad that this country knew better than to elect another actor President. One fuckup was enough.

He was a US Senator before he was an actor, IIRC.

Yes, and Ronny Raygun held the seat that Ahnold sits in now... Your point? [/smartass:P]

Undergrad degree in Political Science. Degree in law. Passed the bar. Served as council in the Watergate hearings. Spent years practicing law. Served about ten years in the Senate. Oh, and did a little acting on the side over the last 20 years, then after leaving the Senate in 2003, began acting regularly.

You can fly directly under a tandem and it will not fall on you because of the drogue. The tandem master will just not be able to turn due to no air.

"No air" means you just reduced the lift on the passenger, causing it to drop. If you happen to be there when he needs to pull, it will really drop. That happened to HookNSwoop when he was a TI. And if you happen to have a premature deployment under the tandem, you will ruin everyones day.

Stay the hell out from under tandems. Period.

  7. Now here we were having a nice little discussion based on theory, and you had to go drag facts into it.;)

A couple things strike me as odd in the Loadstar crash:

    1. The plane rolled to the right. Generally a twin on jump run throttles back the left engine to reduce propwash blowing the jumpers toward the tail. So when a stall occurs, the plane drops below Vmc, and the right engine pulls the right wing over the top, and the plane rolls to the left.

    2. The witnesses reported the plane as making a couple slow spirals on the way down. Doesn't sound like a spin.

Also I am not sure if you completely expired what you need to do but, if I read correctly, inorder to remain current you just need to pass one professional level exam. If I didn't have my sights on the IE, I would probably do the MPLS or BGP one.

A "P" level exam has a three year lifetime. When you take the last exam to get a "P" cert, the cert expires three years after that last exam. Three years later, all the exams are more than three years old, so you are back to square one.

zactly why I'm happy with just the NP and SP...

I wish I hadn't let my CCNP & CCDP lapse. I'm working on renewing the CCNP, and DAMN the exams are a hell of a lot worse than they were 5 years ago! It took me two tries to pass the switching exam. Two of my co-workers have taken (and failed) it in recent months. One of them did that right after taking one of those over-priced week-long courses.[:/]

I had a coe-worker tell me yesterday how a freind of his got his CCNA, CCNP and CCIE within a month. Reality is that with a lot of studying and competence, it would take a 1 month for the CCNA, 3 to 4 months for a CCNP and then after all that 6 months for a CCIE.

That must be the CCIE written. Then another 6 months wait to get into the schedule for the practical. Then another 6 month wait to get into the schedule to take it the second time. Then another 6 month wait to get into the schedule to take it the third time and pass it.[:/]

Yeah but they don't know if the pilot can stop the spin. We can see now it was just 23 seconds, but for all they knew at the time that plane could spin all the way to the ground.

I'm sure looking at an open door in a out of control aircraft looked very tempting to them.

    I agree.

A vidiot once told me the story of being in a Caravan in a spin. He was right beside the door, but the G-forces had him forced against the wall of the plane so hard he didn't have the strength to move. I can understand the point that exiting jumpers run the risk of damaging the tail. But on the other hand, if the plane went into the stall due to aft CG, and the jumpers are still in the tail, how do we know the pilot will even be able to recover it? It is probably easier to get out the door if you are in the tail, rather than try to work your way toward the front, especially if the spin is accelerating. I can't blame jumpers for saving their own lives. Yes, there is a risk of damaging the plane, but the weight leaving just might save it.

Funny how long that cameraman hung on to the airplane. You would think that upon recognition that the airplane was stalling, let alone SPINNING, he would let go!

    Going through cameraman's mind:

"Oh, shit, a spin! Oh,wait, this'll be some really cool video! Wonder how long I can hang on......":S

Did anyone check out the SSD price? For that kind of money, it just needs to come with more standard features and not just for adding a SSD.

Have you looked at the prices of 64GB SSD's?:o
The premium Apple is charging for the faster CPU + SSD doesn't look so bad after that.

Tell me--gently--how Corliss was "trying" to jump. You did see the vid, right? I stand by my "agenda or pussy" theory. He had wings. Why did he let himself be taken over by lame-ass rent-a-cops? He sure made sure that he had his helmet cam steady on those evil meanies trying to stop his jump. :S

Here's what I heard: "Thtop it, you big brutes--I'm gonna die if you don't let go of me. Thtop it--I MEAN it . . . " :D:D

If you had read this thread you would have seen the discussion between Jtval and myself about setbacks on that building. Google for the articles about the suicide from ESB a year ago. They found the guys leg on the sidewalk, and the rest of him on top of a setback. Just maybe that wasn't how Jeb wanted his jump to end.

The Phantom Brigade is a group of ex-AB guys that meet in Zhills and do a static line jump on occasion.

I've seen them spot on the dz, one after the other.

Then, on the 3rd pass, the wind picks up to 10mph.
:o They get to see a lot more of Zhills than they expected. :D

One of the funniest things I ever saw was a guy coming down under a 28' round, when the winds picked up abruptly after he was under canopy. The landing was your expected feet-butt-back, then it started to drag him. He jumped to his feet and started to run around it to collapse it, when a big gust fully inflated it. Now he is on his feet running at full speed with the wind at his back and a fully inflated canopy in front. That was when he saw the fence.:D:D:D

Believe it or not the SOB did the most impressive hurdlers leap over that fence I've ever seen!!!:o
The whole DZ was in hysterics for ten minutes.B|

"Steerable" may not be the correct phrase.
More like "YEE-HAW!" That would be hanging on for the ride.

If there was cloud cover at 5K, it would be dark.
Using todays technology, less of a problem.
However, landing a round in 30mph winds, with no moonlight, that would be tough to steer for anything.

"Steerable" on a round really just means "you get to choose your view while the wind takes where ever it damn well pleases".>:(

    Its the daily 2130 FREAKOUT!!!

The Dude (His Dudeness, El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing) is roaming all over the living room area doing things he knows he isn't supposed to do because he wants to go outside. He's not allowed outside unsupervised anymore since he will go over the fence but isn't smart enough to come back across. He'll sit on the otherside of the fence meowing until one of us comes and rescues him.

Katie is following Dude around and pouncing him when he's not looking. You've got to understand that The Dude is a HUGE long haired cat that weighs around 30lbs. Katie is your average North American short hair that weighs around 12lbs.:D

Just give The Dude a saucer of half-and-half with a splash of Kahlua and a few drops of vodka, and he'll be fine.;)
