    What do you think this means? Because I have no idea.

    Does using square brackets make it secret?

    I think it is chemical notation;

    1 mole of element Jb reacts with 1 mole of element Kh to form the compound biden harris.

    Yeah, but we are sliding into a state where there isn’t much substance on the forum. One or two people persist in being total arseholes and all sensible debate and discussion gets lost in the noise.

    Take the one liners to PM’s or ignore and don’t engage.

    There are 2 pages of comments and it didn’t even make it through one page of substance.I don’t expect the mods to be able to keep up with the amount of childish shit that is happening.

    I still fail to see why they don't just ban the worst troll.

    Probably the best idea I've seen is to limit terms to 20 years, and stagger them so each president automatically gets 2 positions per term to fill.  That way it won't be possible to stack the court so ideologies get locked in for generations and become totally disconnected from American society.

    ^This!

    I've read the proposal before.

    Hi Joe,

    Completely off topic; but, here goes.  I have made three trips to Japan ( 77 - 81 ) but am not an 'expert' under any definition.

    What bugs me is when I hear Hiroshima pronounced:  Hirosh Ima

    It is:  Hiro Shima

    Or it could be pronounced Hiro Jima; similar to Iwo Jima.  Shima - Jima meaning island.  Iwo Jima means sulfur island.  I'm not sure what Hiro means.

    Or, I could be completely wrong; my, now 80-yr old mind is no longer perfect.

    Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

    I just did a bit of experimenting with Google Translate:

    Hiroshima in Japanese: 広島

    Translation: 広 -> wide, 島 -> island

    Google's pronunciation in Japanese sounds like  Hiro-Seema, but in English sounds like Hiro-Shima

  5. Judge blocks Michigan's ban on transporting voters to polls

    https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2020-election/judge-blocks-michigan-s-ban-transporting-voters-polls-n1240432

    In Michigan, it is a misdemeanor to hire drivers to take voters to polling places unless they physically cannot walk. Because of the ban, Michigan was the only state in which ride-hailing company Uber did not offer discounted rides to the polls on Election Day in November 2018, according to the lawsuit.

    [facepalm]

  6. 911 Call From Intoxicated Jerry Falwell Jr.’s House Last Month Describes ‘A Lot Of Blood’

    But medics and emergency responders arrived at the residence later that night. A responder observed lacerations on Jerry Falwell Jr.’s face, including under his left eye, across the bridge of his nose, and above both his right and left eyes. The responder also recorded in a report that Jerry Falwell Jr. said he hit his head on a trash can, and that there was “blood in the area he indicated” as well as “empty alcohol containers.” The officer also noted “Jerry had slurred and slowed speach (sic) and would repeat things already asked.”

    Hi Robert,

    About 35 yrs ago, a guy I worked with found out one of his 15-yr old daughters was having sex with some guy about 20-21.  He tried to get the guy prosecuted.  But, the prosecutor told him, 'Nope, not as long as she consented,' which she had.

    PS)  IMO there is a lot of effort in this country to take away the judge's discretion ( people not being satisfied with the sentencing, etc ); so that is why the DA's now make those decisions.

    A close co-worker of mine a few years ago learned that his high school daughter was dating a guy in his early 20's. (IIRC there was ~8 year age difference). He had some heartburn about it, but the parents decided trying to do something about it would make things worse, not better. Last I heard, his daughter was in college, and still seeing the guy.

    Suddenly John Bolton is out of favour with the right. It's a strange time.

    Yes, he's so old-fashioned that he still thinks Russia and North Korea can't be trusted.
