PC1000 Deal

Hey everyone,

I think I have a pretty good deal on a rarely used PC1000.. 250$
Should I go for it?

Is the PC1000 still a good camera nowadays (regarding to the new HDV models, etc..)

How long (jumps) have you used yours and are you happy with it?

Sounds like a killer deal. I know there are a lot of Japanese versions out there that have the menu entirely in Japanese, so you might want to double check that it's not one of these.

It's the European version (PAL). It's not grey market and doesn't have a japanese menu.. It's from a friend of a friend, who is getting a HVX200.

I've been scanning e-bay trying to find one. PC1000 go regularly for 500 Euro. PC330 don't go bellow 400 Euro (Pal, European versions).

Warning: If it only supports PAL video output and you don't have a PAL TV or monitor you will be screwed. I would avoid the PAL model since it is very hard to find a TV or monitor to display PAL.

Sorry...I didn't look at your location first. Assumed that you were in the US. Yes, there are lots of PAL monitors everywhere other than in the US. We just got to be different.

Just got the cam, it's in a good condition. Has only one small scratch on the surface, but still has some warranty left! European PAL Version

I found out it can control 25 frames in progressive mode, which is a real bonus I didn't knew.. The seller says that he heard it can record even in 30p, but this function is somehow hidden, because it's not in the menu.
Does anyone know if this is true? A quick search on the web supports this rumor, but says not where it is.. Maybe only the NTSC cams?

You can copy and playback ntsc footage from a ntsc camera, most PAL sony cams can do this, that is probably what was meant (?)

I was thinking about recording in 30p (progressive), which would give a slightly better result when you timestretch (slowmotion) the captured material in the post..

Played with it a for while now, it has pretty decent manual features..
I'm happy

if it's a PAL camera, it can Xfer data at other framerates, but it can't record them natively.
FWIW, 30p doesn't do that much more for slo-mo. You'll do better upping the shutterspeed if you want good/better timestretch.

What shutterspeed do you think still works without losing picture information while freefalling? What is your experience?

I shoot high shutterspeeds all the time. I'll upload some slowmo footage to YouTube shortly, that has a split screen to show the difference.
