Top Mounting Camcorder w/o D-Box

Recommended Posts

I've got a TRV22 I'm going to be top mounting. Will a tripod screw keep it secure? Is a strap really necessary? Should I just go buy some webbing and a fastex clip and make one myself? Do most people use one or two straps?

I'm going to either buy or make a dbox in the near future, but I'm looking for a solution for the next couple weeks.

i have a TRV-22 top mounted but i use a gold member to secure it.....now i used to just have the screw holding it on.....it would hold it fine but i found that if i wasnt just flyign on my belly.....like freeflying, or backflying....that the screw wouldnt keep it straight....the camera turned on me.....so i went to the local hardware store and bought a few corner brackets to use as support for the camera.

With nothing securing the LCD, couldn't it flip open (and get torn off) if you go on your back?

I was thinking about that as well. I talked to a couple of the local camera fliers this weekend, and I think I'm just going to use a strap over the accessory shoe and use gaffer's tape on the viewfinder and between the lens and camera body.

BTW, I just topmounted my first camcorder, IN a d-box... the camera is an HC90 but the only box Bonehead has that works with it is the box for the TRV22, which is a nice box although I have a bit of spare room in it and had to dremel down the extension on the front so it wasn't in my HC90's FOV.
