weber 0 #1 April 2, 2002 What type of oil is it that you are supposed to apply to the cutaway cables every couple months or so?
polarbear 1 #2 April 2, 2002 Silicone...Do this once a month.Remove the cutaway handle. Wipe the cables clean with a cloth that has been sprayed with silicone. Do not leave excess silicone on the cables; it will atract dirt. While the cutaway is removed, take apart the 3-ring assembley and flex the end of the riser (where the 2nd largest ring is attached). Also flex the loop that holds the small ring and the loop that holds the cutaway cable.Check your container owners manual for procedures and/or get a rigger to help out.The above maintenence should be performed (and we all actually do it, right?) once a month. The cutaway cables can dirty and the riser ends will get stiff and aqcuire a "set"; by cleaning and flexing everything you can reduce the likelihood of a hesitation on cutaway. councilman24 36 #3 April 2, 2002 I use a food grade, lubrication spray silicon on a paper towel. One brand is Dow 316 Silicone Release Spray.
riggerrob 558 #4 April 2, 2002 I use WD 40 sprayed on a paper towel.I spread WD 40 on the cables and continue rubbing until the grime loosens up. Then I wipe the cables dry.Cleanliness is more important than lubrication.Too much lubrication will just trap grit and lead to a hard pull.
skydive4play 0 #5 April 2, 2002 I asked this same question to Sun Path, they told me that they use a 3 in 1 oil lub. And that is what I use now on my Osyssey. A very thin coat, as to not attract dirt and grit. Silicons sprays are ok I think...Lead Follow Or Get The Hell Out Of The Way!!!...
