Jimchamp1 0 #1 January 4, 2002 Hi,My name is Jimmy. I just turned 18 and made myfirst jump at Perris Valley (AFF) on December 22, 2001. I have decided to save for my lisence and then for my own gear and all that. After I get started I am wondering about what the average amount of money it costs per year to maintain equipment? You don't have to tell me what it costs YOU inparticular however maybe if anyoneve me a general frame as to about what it costs you. This way I can get an idea of about how much I need to save before I can afford all of this. Thanks a TON.Life Never Looked So Good,Jimmy
gus 1 #2 January 4, 2002 Hi Jimmy,Congrats on the first (BEER!) jump and good luck with the licence.Maintaining equipment doesn't have to be all that expensive as long as you take care of what you've got. The most obvious costs are reserve repacks (£30 every 6 months in the UK, I think every 3 or 4 months in the US) and Cypres batteries (every 2 years, £40?) and servicing (every 4 years, £150-ish).There will be other occasional costs. Changing velcro if you have it, having the canopy relined, replacing the pilot chute, general restitching. But compared to renting equipment it's cheaper (?), more convenient and arguably safer. What have I forgotten?Gus
freeflir29 0 #3 January 4, 2002 Much cheaper than rental!! $40 or so for a re pack every 4 months. Around $160-180 for a reline every 400-800 jumps. New pilot chute every 1000 jumps. Cypres upkeep.....I don't have one but I think it's about $200 every four years and you have to buy a new cypres every 12 years. Pack carefully so you don't have mals and things will remain cheap!"I got some beers....Let's Drink em!!!"Clay
