  1. Does anyone know where I can get a rubber skydiving stamp? I can't find them anywhere. I need it to stamp out formations for a school project. Any leads would be SWEEEEEEEEEET. Thanks in advance. Blue Skies, James
  2. Okay . . . so how many jumps does it take to get a "B" "C" and "D" license. I thought you had to have like 1000 to get a "D" rating but I noticed some people only have like 250 at they have a "D" license already . . . sooooo what's goin' on here? BLUE SKIES!!! James o and for those of you that told me to not jump today . . . thanks . . . I always appreciate the help.
  3. If I have a cold and take meds to clear the sinuses, is the pressure still going to suck? I just don't have enough experience to know . . . I am trying to jump TODAY meaning Sunday . . . give me some quick advice please . . . I need to get in the air but don't know if I am being forced to delay it a week from the Gods. James
  4. If anyone is going to be at Perris Valley on Sunday, April 24 . . . this weekend and is interested in any formation jumping or perhaps some RW work let me know. I have 40 jumps and I am always looking for people to jump with.
  5. HELLO ALL . . . I am a new born in the skydiving world with 40 jumps . . . I have 40 jumps in three years and once I get my rig I am hoping this number will start to jump a little more rapidly to say the least . . . anyway . . . onto business . . . I am a student at USC in Los Angeles, CA . . . my home dropzone is Perris Valley. I am minoring in Sculpture and am trying to incorporate my passion for skydiving into this study of sculpture. So here is what I am trying to do . . . this is all tenative to interest . . . and number of people but this is what I would like to do . . . I have spoken briefly with Dan BC at Perris and he mentioned his support of this formation if possible so here are the tenative plans and let me know if you are interested. In 1970 a man by the name of Robert Smithson created an earthworks sculpture called the "Spiral Jetty" . . . this is a 1500 foot sculpture that can be found in the Great Salt Lake. It 15 feet wide and you can walk on it. I would like to try and emmulate this sculpture with a formation skydive of a spiral. Given my lack of experience, I would presume that I would not be participating in the actual formation, however I am still actively trying to organize this jump day. I would like to do some film from the ground. I will provide more information if I can get enough interest . . . APRIL 24, 2005 . . . that's the designated day to try this attempt if we can get the people . . . I would like to do this out of Perris Valley in Southern California. As I am new at all of this, any assistance in helping to organize this I would greatly appreciate. I would like to set the entire day aside for the attempts if possible. I would like to see an early morning start so we can get acquainted with one another and do some dirt dives. We can try the whole day if everyone is up for it. Anyone interested will be responsible for paying for their participation. In other words . . . I need people who just love to jump!!! --> how hard can that be to find? ;) Also, if you are interested I would like you to e-mail me with your experience and contact information to [email protected] -- title the email "Spiral Formation" so I can keep track of them. I will need plenty of people willing to make several attempts if necessary . . . I would hope to see completion but more importantly safety and good solid attempts. I will also need a few people to film. If anyone is interested let me know and we will be in touch more frequently to note the potential jump date. I will have to speak with manifest more at Perris and a few people there to make sure we are good . . . but lets see who's UP for this one . . . I will gratiously accept any suggestions that anyone has as to how to approach this or more appropriate ways to gain interest!!! BLUE SKIES, James
  6. Well . . . I am looking to get a job at a dropzone if possible . . . maybe a packer? BUT HOW DO I DO THAT . . . I can't seem to figure it out. Who do you go to and what's the process? Thanks to all responses . . . James
  7. Okay . . . I have been jumping for a little over three years now. Naturally, as every skydiver seems to struggle with . . . I do not have the funds to jump as much as I would like. Once I invest in my rig however, things will be much easier . . . so I am hoping for this summer. Anyway, I went on USPA.org to check out some stuff. I don't have a ton of jumps, but I frequent Perris Valley and I ask lots of questions. I am really trying to learn. Here is my problem and I am looking for anyone who has suggestions or answers for me. Last year I tried to start a USC skydiving club. The purpose of the club was to allow young fellow skydivers to share their experiences and learn from them. I wanted to help young skydivers like myself learn the importance of staying current and be able to establish a group to gain funding to assist in that aspiration. Staying current is a great goal for students especially because of the financial obligation to school. However, my request was denied several times. The USPA sight mentioned that there are several collegiate competitions each year. I am wondering . . . where do these college students find the funds to be able to jump enough to compete? My dream is to graduate from USC and really work hard to get coaching and start up a 4-way team. I am trying to learn with every second of every jump but I can only afford to jump one day for every 60 (the minimun for "A" lisenced holders - friendly reminder) . . . I constantly read what I can and I get into the harness room and talk to the coaches before I jump to be as safe as I can . . . and I started talking to the LO's at Perris to learn to fly slots and maneuver more . . . What does anyone recommend for me as a college student to maintain my currency, and maybe be able to eventually compete without having a college team? Any suggestions as to where to find funds or how to approach that situation? I know it's a dumb question as if there were good enough answers everyone would do it . . . just seeing what people have to say to the novice here . . . BLUE SKIES . . . Thanks to everyone . . . THIS SPORT KICKS ASS!!! James
  8. Hey I really appreciate the advice . . . Blue Skies
  9. I am not referring to a turn around MY centerpoint (or belly button) . . . I am saying the center point of say me and another jumper. How would I do a circle around that jumper while keeping them in directly in front of me as I rotate around them? I know I could get a coach but MONEY is an issue so if anyone could briefly explain it on here that would be AWESOME . . . THANKS SOOOOOOO MUCH!!!
  10. Hey everyone . . . okay, I just got my "A" license and I am looking to work on a few new things. I have done a couple of two-way jumps just to start learning to work with other people while I'm in freefall. I am doing well with my turns but there is a type of turn that I do not quite understand . . . If I am facing the center point . . . how do I do a 360 AROUND that point while keeping it directly in front of me? I think that makes sense . . . ANYONE PLEASE . . . I am getting ready to make a few more jumps in a week and I want to be able to do some of the simple RW type things so I can better work with other divers . . . THANKS!
  11. First, I just wanted to thank everyone for their help. I was referred to this web site and the more I find out the more I want to know. I have one final question before I take a little break with that . . . and sit and chill for a few . . . I don't have a lot of money, and I know this is an expensive sport to start. When I save and get out of AFF I figured I would buy a good rig but cheap cause I'll "grow out of it faster as a student". But my question is more, can I really start slow and be safe after AFF, like maybe jumping on weekends if that's all that time, and money for that matter, permits?
