C9 canopies in bulk

Recommended Posts

This is a box used to ship eight C-9 canopies (DOM Nov. 52) to Hill AFB from the Atlantic Parachute Company in Lowell, MA. Atlantic, formed in 1942, was a major supplier of military parachute in and after WWII.
The American Textile History Museum in Lowell has an exhibit of parachutes -- unfortunately with a canopy draped over the tail of a Cessna 150.:S

Why do they have a display with a canopy draped over the tail of a Cessna?
Are they trying to simulate a jump emergency?

... and judging by the width of those white reinforcing tapes, it is not a C-9.

I don't understand it either??????
