Andybilly 0 #1 March 7, 2006 I am from the UK and will be travelling to Dayton next year at the beginning of April. The question is how far is the nearest DZ is from Dayton and what the weather is like. Thanks for reading
scottbre 0 #2 March 7, 2006 Looks like Skydive Greene County (in Xenia) is calling your name. It's probably about half an hour from Dayton. My understanding is that they will have an Otter for most of the season this year. Good DZ with cool DZO and lots of cool people to jump with. Weatherwise, well... it's Ohio. So in April, that basically means that it's unpredictable. But you should still be able to jump if you keep your eye on the weather. Hope to see you there at some point. napaguy99 0 #3 March 9, 2006 Don't forget about Skydive Wayne County in Richmond, Indiana. They're just across the border, about 40ish miles. They're the ones that have the kickass huge boogie every fall. Last time I was there they had an otter. They're good folks there, just ask Hollywood. "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin." Icon134 0 #4 March 9, 2006 Yeah, Like others have said... Skydive Greene County is like 15-20 minutes from downtown Dayton. If you're on the east side its even closer... (Get a place in Xenia and you might even be able to walk there...) The weather in OH in April can be awesome but it can also be Rainy, Windy... and will not fun... I haven't been there yet but I've heard good things about Skydive Wayne County in Richmond, IN as well. As soon as spring is finally here in full force I imagine OH will be a great place to jump. and over the summer they usually have a Twin Otter or a CASA. They have actually just re-started a listserv (thtough Yahoo! groups) and I hope it will be used to communicate jumpable weekends... I hope to see you out at the DZ. PhreeZone 15 #5 March 10, 2006 Otter returns in April (Date yet to be confirmed buts its coming, it always does ) to SGC. I'm not sure the plane status at Richmond since the Porter was down as of last fall. Otter will fly every weekend after that point. Until then, The DZ is still technically closed for the year but it looks like we have a 182 and its owner to let us still jump. Coming from the UK just be prepared for a culture shock in terms of jumping. There are no flight line checks here. No one is going to look at your gear before every jump. To make your life easier make sure your rig in day to the 120 day requirements in the US. If you do decide to come to SGC please feel free to contact me!Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
sundevil777 99 #6 March 11, 2006 Coming to Dayton because of the Air Force base? The museum is also fantastic (and free), you could spend a lot of time cruising this site: http://www.wpafb.af.mil/museum/index.htm The SGC web site: http://www.skydiveohio.com/index.htmPeople are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
