IAD - Risks with Aircraft

Recommended Posts

Hi, looking for information as to whether instructor assisted deployment has more or less risks depending on the aircraft you are dispatching students from. Information on the best type of aircraft and the worst would be appreciated.

Thank you, Kate

It has no more risks with the aircraft than with any other form of skydiving. low-tail aircraft have inherent dangers with skydivers if there is an accidental deployment of the parachute in or out or near the door.

IAD is just another method of deplying a parachute and has to be done properly, like any method of training or student progression.

I have never done IAD, but we've had deployments over/under the tail on both static line and AFF programs. One such deployment almost tore the tail off our King Air; on the other one (the SL) the pilot kicked the tail of the 182 out of the way and it was a non-issue. So it's not just an IAD issue.
