skymama 35 #3 January 11, 2003 I had the pleasure of jumping out of his chopper in Sebastian, but please don't yell at us. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon

sunshine 2 #5 January 11, 2003 What exactly does the faithful sidekick of a heli pilot do? ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug!
weid14 0 #6 January 11, 2003 a helicopter needs an hour of maintenace for every hour of flight time (roughly). The flyboys can't do that, they need a crew chief certified to turn wrenches and the like.

Excuse me, I think your capital lock is on(notice, everything that Bagel typed is in capital.) His name, and the subject matter?May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. Kirils 1 #8 January 11, 2003 What does "Chopper John" fly?"Slow down! You are too young to be moving that fast!" Old Man Crawfish
skymama 35 #9 January 11, 2003 I think it's an Alouete. You can see it in Kevin922's video that he took when he came to FL. Check out his long Fl vacation thread in Talkback. I'm too lazy this morning to find the link for you. riggerrob 562 #10 January 11, 2003 Alouette 2 or Alouette 3? I used to turn wrenches on Sikorskys, so you'll have to type louder for me to understand you.

BAGEL 0 #12 January 11, 2003 I'm the only one you see on the highway pulling a helicopter behind a pick-up, i install and remove the main rotor blades and do all the daily maintenance on it. I guess you could say that I'm the "Go to Man" when something has to be done.
BAGEL 0 #13 January 11, 2003 How is this? Better!
BAGEL 0 #14 January 11, 2003 "Chopper John" flies a 1965 Alouette 2. It's ex-german military. It will get you and three of your friends to 5K in 3 minutes, and if you had the money it would get you to 25K.
weid14 0 #15 January 11, 2003 So John's favorite toy is now the heli... he's lost interest in the red-baron bi-plane thing? when's the pitts special coming?
flyhi 24 #16 January 12, 2003 Quoteif you had the money it would get you to 25K. And if you're 22, you can fill out your POPS application on the way up. What kind of powerplant does it have in it?Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.
BAGEL 0 #17 January 12, 2003 The powerplant is a Turbomeca Artouste II C6, de-rated to 450 SHP. I doubt it would take that long to get to 25K, but we don't know because we haven't gone that high yet. Not that it couldn't, though. The service ceiling is 25K.
flyhi 24 #18 January 13, 2003 QuoteThe service ceiling is 25K. I have about 2500 hrs in Dauphin's and they say the service ceiling on them is 18,000 feet. Those wacky French guys and their whimsical sense of humor. (No offense Remi.) Of course we were using Lycoming LTS 101 engines. There are rumors of something new on the horizon, but I can't see that far.Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.
