Guru312 0 #1 June 25, 2004 If this has been posted to a DropZone forum please excuse me but this is just too funny. An airshow in Michigan will be featuring the pilot of the plane that dropped the A-bomb on Japan and a demo parachute team of Elvis impersonsonators. The article reads: "Also appearing at this year's show are a group of skydiving Elvis impersonators called the "E-Team," Now that's creative: A-bombs and Elvis. AggieDave 6 #2 June 25, 2004 There is a team out of Las Vegas called "The Flying Elvi" which came about after the movie Leaving Las Vegas (if I remember correctly. Their url (if I remember correctly) is http://www.flyingelvi.com--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
airtwardo 6 #3 June 25, 2004 There are / were actually more than the two teams... The "E" Team is a group run by Paul McGowan that is probably the most popular~ (re; busiest demo wise) But they were not the first. The Flying Elvi group was first to my recollection... but doesn't have as good a program as Paul's group does. There was also a team out California at one time going by 'Skydiving Elvis's" or something like that. More or less a 'pickup' team of Pro jumpers that was doing specialty events. They were all much more popular back when the movie was still fresh in the publics mind. Still... The "E Team" stays quite busy, something of a novelty act. The whole group is a fun, talented bunch that really plays up the 'act'.If my memory serves... It was an Elvis type demo that was the cause of the largest liability insurance claim ever filed against the USPA's coverage, several years back. After settling the 7 figure suit, as far as demo's go~ That Elvis..."has left the business!!" ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~

The Flying Elvi was an attempt by a Vegas show producer to circumvent any royalties on the the copyrighted name. I know this to be fact because I jumped in the movie and after the movie with the Flying Elvi ----------------------------------------------------------- If my memory serves... There were no lawsuits filed of any kind by anybody. Work on the facts. bozo bozo Pain is fleeting. Glory lasts forever. Chicks dig scars.
airtwardo 6 #6 June 25, 2004 Obviously I must have been mis informed, Most humble apologies! The story I got was through a representative from Admiralty Insurance..the previous carrier of demo and general membership liability coverage, during a discussion regarding the major premium increases that resulted in us changing carriers to Insurance Programs And Technologies Inc. last USPA BOD meeting. It was related that incident (and one 2 years later to a smaller extent) caused the 'spike' in the demo insurance benefit payouts. Must have been another incident about the same time... You were there...you would know. Thanks for the correction. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
