Moving sideways in free fall

Recommended Posts

Age doesn't have a whole lot of meaning in here - well... mostly.

Agreed - bonus points ARE granted for (emotional) maturity, however! ;)

For the OP - I'm sure your instructors (who are your BEST source for this info) have probably already covered this, and it's already mentioned in the thread, but:

You put your legs out to move forward.

You put your arms out to move backwards.

What do you think you need to put out to move sideways?

I can relate to that. I figured out side sliding on my first dedicated sliding dive with another jumper. I just "did it." It was a bit tricky to keep fall rate while sliding, but got it by sliding dive two. On the other hand, I've jumped 3 times with someone I've tried to explain it to and they don't seem to get it yet. And they've got as many jumps as I do. Hmmm.

Anyway, ever noticed how a lot of people go waaaaay out on a flyaround? If you side slide and pivot towards the target you can skirt around them within a few feet without much effort. For some reason people @ my jump numbers seem to have trouble with that..... Maybe I'm just happy I've found something I can do well - Because I suck at lots of other things ;)

I will be kissing hands and shaking babies all afternoon. Thanks for all your support! *bows*
