P206 STC needed

Recommended Posts

Desperately looking for a STC or a LSTC for a Cessna P206 (jump door like a 182, not the cargo U206 door)

-jump door modification
-jump step
-extra seat belt

The US form 334 does not cut it as they are really no longer granting them and in many cases, reviewing them and revoking them.

Rampart Aviation has had an all inclusive, complete jump ship STC in the works with the FAA for a year now but it is like trying to get a drug approved with the FDA. Could be tomorrow, could be years from now. Looking for a way to legally have our plane modified for jumping.

The only issue with this is that even after FAA approval it would still need to be submitted to Transport Canada and go through their approval process.

The 2 other posters gave other operators that use that aircraft. Would not Transport allow their prior approvals as Approved Data for you?

Well, not really. A STC is a final approved modification to the aircraft whether it be in Canada or the US. All that has to happen is the STC holder sets a price and puts you on their STC. No Transport Canada approval needed. If Rampart ever, ever gets their approval, all will be fine (minus paying the $$$).

A LSTC (limited STC) is for a specific aircraft or or a small number of aircraft in a particular operation. There as well you need the LSTC holder's permission to be put on with them and use their data.

There is nothing for free in the aircraft world, I understand that but I am more amazed that there are not more legal STC or LSTC availalbe for a 206 to jump from. That is what I'm looking for.

You may want to check into that further. A US STC still needs to go to Transport Canada to be standarized.
Real life example: We sold a DHC-3 to a Canadian operator. It has an STC installed for the Chelton Flight Logic Synthetic Vision and Garmin ADSB. This is an STC that was designed and produced BY the FAA for operators in Alaska. Aeroflight Industries, in Vancover, is having a hell of a time getting approved by Transport. Transport is asking them to submit ALL the data for the system and install so that they can standardize it in Canada.

Agreed!
Transport Canada does not automatically accept FAA Supplementary Type Certificates.
For example, Keystone Helicopters of Pennsylvania used to earn FAA STCs to install searchlights, rescue hoists, etc. on helicopters manufactured by MBB, but when MBB Helicopter of Canada, tried to apply for Transport Canada STCs, they had to start from zero, with diplomaed engineers, certified test pilots, etc. to - reinvent the wheel. In the end , MBB Helicopter of Canada invented a new gadget that did the same job - ten percent better - for ten times the cost.

If you want to hear my opinion about how what a great job Transport Canada is doing about approving FAA STCs on skydiver-specific seatbelts, consider that I was off work for eight months last year with a dislocated shoulder ....
Then loudly and angrily spew your entire profane vocabulary!!!!!!!

Burke,

We had our aircraft door, step, belts, etc all modified to our satisfaction by an AME. Before making any entries to the Logs or flying it, we hired a TC certified engineer.

Essentially, he reverse-engineered the paperwork. Drawings, placards, all kinds of nonsense.

He submitted it on our behalf to TC. It was approved immediately. Cost for the engineer (1997) was about $800 all-in. We did get a hell of a deal because he did our work between bigger things while on the local airport.

You might want to explore a similar option. Oh and incidentally, Flanagan's is a 205. And, all the aircraft mentioned probably carry a LSTC, limited to their registration/ident only. Not an STC which can cross platforms.

John
