billvon 2,400 #4 April 5, 2020 Let me add another note - There's a big effort on right now to get as many ventilators as possible. But let's say we do that, and fill stadiums and shopping centers with them. That's about 20% of the problem. You still need: Sedating and paralytic agents Respiratory therapists and doctors to intubate and monitor patients Beds IV's, cardiac monitors and all the other usual critical-care equipment So it's great that people are building these things as quickly as possible, but having them alone will not solve the problem.
wmw999 2,123 #5 April 5, 2020 One of my in-laws in-laws works for GE in Wisconsin. That's where GE builds them. They've ramped up to three shifts a day, 24 hours a day, and are getting GE employees from across the country to go where they're needed if possible. Supply chain is a big problem, too (that's why he's working on). So it's not like they're not trying, and keeping the qualified people where they're needed, and putting the new blood where they can be most useful. Wendy P.
