SkyDekker 1,123 #51 April 30, 2015 QuoteWhy wouldn't it? it is discrimination to not allow gay marriage same if you don't allow multiple consenting adults. The gay community said it should be ok for consenting adults to marry, you telling me that there can't be 3, 4, or more consenting adults? Not allowing gay marriage is discrimination since you are onjecting based on sexual orientation. Polygamy is not a sexual orientation. Nambla and animals is a sexual orientation. Though that orientation tends to be illegal in today's society. Stopping discrimination against homosexual couples would not change society's views on the ability of minors and/or animals to provide an informed consent. Polygamy is not a sexual orientation. It is the concept of being married to multiple people. It isn't discrimination because polygamy is not restricted based on race, religion, gender or sexual orientation. Well, just to nitpick the definitions, there's discriminatory intent, and discriminatory effect. Example of discriminatory intent might be be prohibiting polygamy as an anti-Mormon policy. Discriminatory effect might be prohibiting polygamy as a policy of screwing hard-working lawyers out of the fees that would probably result from polygamous marriages, which also has the unintended effect of discriminating against Mormons. LyraM45 0 #53 May 1, 2015 I feel like this conversation always ends up in the same place with regards to gay marriage. RE: Kids can now marry kids, and adults can now marry kids. Apples and oranges here. The argument is if two consenting ADULTS can marry. RE: people can now marry their dog. Again, the argument is if two consenting ADULTS (humans who are able to speak and consent) can marry. As for polygamist? Sure, let them be recognized. It will take a restructuring of the government rights/benefits/etc (IE: taxes, rights to decisions about the husbands/wives estate, power of medical decisions, etc) that come along with marriage, but as far as I am concerned, that is consenting adults doing what they please and it's none of my business. As others have said, as long as government is involved, then all of the legal things associated with marriage/union has to be equal across the board for all consenting adult citizens of this country. This has nothing to do with spiritual union, and everything to do with the legal aspects of it. If government didn't have their hands in the marriage business, then this wouldn't even need to be discussed.Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)

Just out of curiosity, is there any sort of "polygamists rights" group out there? I know some of the extreme Mormon sects (not recognized by the main church) practice it, and some Muslims do too. But is there any sort of 'push' to legalize it? I'm not aware of any."There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit."
