For short periods, like New Orleans right after Katrina, and parts of LA right after the riots, it might have been exciting.

But short times. Keeping a low profile (i.e. being ready so that you can) goes a long way towards not being part of ugliness.

When people start dying of thirst and hunger,and they get cold and angry,they will revert back to survival of the strongest,or in other words the best armed.
This is when guns will become very important for self preservation.
But natural disasters aside,what if social and political events led to SHTF.
I bet the jews who were rounded up by the nazis wished they had some guns when those nazi thugs were kicking in the doors.

A katana and a cross bow like the redneck uses on the walking dead would be a nice combo. A nice high capacity gun would work well for when you find yourself cornered by a bunch of progressive liberal zombies,since just the sight of the high capacity guns would most likely make their heads explode without the need to fire a shot.
