I think the Roman Catholic church has done a pisspoor job throughout this process. I have some faith that at this point they realize that.

I also think our respective justice systems have done a pisspoor job punishing those responsible.

I don't think it is fair to state the acts were sponsored by religion though.

When the people in charge of the church hide the crimes, allow the perpetrators to remain in their positions, shift the perpetrators to other positions that continue to provide them access to victims, and deny that there's any problem; it's hard for me to call it a "pisspoor job of handling it."

Its a lot closer to accessory to the crime, both during and after the fact.

It's also pretty hard to blame the civil authorities (cops) when the church hid and denied the crimes as effectively as they did.
