******The real question is, can you apply Scripture in your own life?

The question is, can you give up your mental crutch and live with reality?

It is a spiritual crutch and the answer is no. My life became livable after I ask Jesus to come into my heart.

So you asked for a crutch.

Giving up substance abuse no doubt had a much greater effect.

Whatever it took to make this happen, I'm all for it.
even if I think it's imaginary

I'd rather hear about positive results from religion rather than the other. Which would you rather hear from a religios person?

"Hey, God helped me get off of crack"
vs
"Hey, God told me to kill people that use old fashioned energy wasting light bulbs"
or
"Hey, God told me to drive my Prius at 60 in the left lane of a 70 MPH highway"
or
"Hey, God told me not to sign legal marriage licenses"

your choice

...
Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

No imaginary being told me to do any of those things. However, I may have pasta for dinner tonight.

So you asked for a crutch.

In recovery, we accept a spiritual crutch for survival. Mine is Jesus Christ. My Lord and Savior with the Holy Spirit to guide me in my relationship to Him.

On 16 Mar 1981 I asked Jesus to come into my heart and take control because I was dying in my sin.
Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.

My relationship with Jesus Christ was established first. He gave me the desire and the strength to get sober two years later.
