Black woman sentenced to 20 years for firing a warning shot

Recommended Posts

She was sentenced for attempted murder.

She got into an argument with her ex. Left. Went to the garage. Went to her car. Got the gun out of the car. Went back to the ex. Took a shot at him (and missed) and then tried to claim self defense / warning shots. While she was out on bail, she got re-arrested for approaching the victim and getting in a fight with him.

I'm guessing he came across the story comparing this to the white guy who was acquitted of murder for shooting the guy screwing his wife and claiming a racial bias (through severe mischaracterization of both cases). He realized how ridiculous that article was, so he found the CNN article to appear more level headed. Unfortunately, CNN didn't have many facts in their article either. Why else would he post an article from May 2012.

From skinnay's CNN piece:
Quote

Corey said she had offered Alexander a plea bargain that would have resulted in a three-year prison sentence, but Alexander chose to take the case to a jury trial, where a conviction would carry a mandatory sentence under a Florida law known as "10-20-life."

The law mandates increased penalties for some felonies, including aggravated assault, in which a gun is carried or used.

I agree that 20 years is pretty excessive. I would have thought maybe 60 days and then some anger counseling would be more productive.

Did you have a point?

You would give 60 days for attempted murder?

Ok, so tell us, how did you come across this year old story? I did t see it on CNN's homepage, their GZ/TM page, or in the google results for stand your ground or any combination of names involved in the trial.

It's pretty funny how you just construct whatever story makes you feel good :D But fantastic detective work, keep it up!

At least his story makes sense. Not sure what cloud your head is on....
If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead.

So what made you post the story, why did you refer to her as a black woman, and what's wrong with the story?

So, to repeat, where'd you find the year old story, why refer to the convict by her race, and what about the story should make us care?

I'll start by saying that this woman should not go to jail.

It is illegal to discharge a firearm unless you are in fear for your life. If you have the ability to fire a 'warning shot' or 'shoot them in the leg'... Then you do NOT have reasonable fear of death or bodily harm.

Biden's advice to fire a warning shot is illegal and it has been judged illegal time after time. (Never mind that in most cases a warning shot is also tactically a really bad move).

Add in FL's mandatory sentencing..... And you get what you have here. A woman making a bad choice now being forced into jail for 20 years.

Also, any comparison of this to the Martin/Zimmerman case is 100% wrong. Zimmerman didn't use stand your ground.

Any claim that stand your ground is racist is also wrong since recent reports have shown that more blacks have claimed stand your ground and successfully used stand your ground in Florida than whites.

You want to blame someone.... Blame over zealous prosecutors that want to charge anyone they find with a gun.... There was no reason for this woman to even be charged.
