JohnRich 4 #1 March 8, 2010 News:Troopers raid popular bars for unlicensed beers More than a dozen armed State Police officers conducted simultaneous raids last week on three popular Philadelphia bars known for their wide beer selections. The cops confiscated hundreds of bottles of expensive ales and lagers, now in State Police custody at an undisclosed location. The alleged offense: Although the bar owners had bought the beer legally from licensed Pennsylvania distributors and had paid all the necessary taxes, the police claimed that nobody had registered the precise names of the beers with the state Liquor Control Board - a process that requires the brewers or their importers to pay a $75 registration fee for each product they want to sell in Pennsylvania... In fact, according to Maida, more than half the beer removed by the State Police was properly registered - but the cops couldn't find it on their lists because of "clerical errors" or "blatant ineptitude" between the police and the Liquor Control Board, with whom the officers were conferring by telephone...Full Story: http://www.philly.com/philly/news/homepage/20100308_Troopers_raid_popular_bars_for_unlicensed_beers__Dozens_of_gallons_seized_after__citizen_complaint_.html For all of you who think that gun registration is such a great idea, let's take a look at this story and how well beer registration is working. Belgian_Draft 0 #2 March 8, 2010 PA has some really messed up liquer/beer laws. This doesn't come as a surprise even as fucked up of a situation as it is. If all those kegs go skunky i hope they charge the cops with alcohol abuse. They have a shitload of other things they need to focus on, rather than some expensive beers that were not on their list... Fucking morons. They can be found at the next local state police BBQ since only the containers with the names on them are needed for evidence.
JohnRich 4 #6 March 8, 2010 I can't figure out why they raided the bars, instead of the distributors. The story says it's the distributor's job to get the beers properly registered, therefore the bar hasn't done anything wrong to deserve confiscation - they bought the beer legally. If the cops raided the distributor, they'd be targeting the actual "guilty" party, and they would also get to confiscate a whole lot more beer. All that bureaucratic confusion over the variety of names of beers, reminds me of California saying that some guns weren't legal, because they were the wrong color. These are the kinds of screw-ups that will happen when you let the government register things. And when it comes to guns, you're gambling with 10-years in prison that they won't screw up. Andy9o8 0 #10 March 8, 2010 Quote'citizen complaint' That's the key passage that explains it. One or more competing bar owners, with friends in government, were losing business to the popular bars with mega-selections. So, they came up with this way of fucking-over the competition. Not unlike someone from one DZ filing an anonymous "citizen's complaint" with the FAA against a competing DZ for "violations" of...whatever.

kallend 1,679 #12 March 9, 2010 Since you now compare guns with beer, maybe you'd like big penalties for driving while carrying, having an unsecured gun in the passenger compartment, selling guns to those under 21, allowing those under 21 to use guns, liability for stores that sell guns to those who go out and commit crimes with them, etc., etc.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
