Andy9o8 1 #51 March 26, 2007 QuoteQuoteWhat is flawed about the comparison? Here in the U.S. any political party can have rallys, conventions, stage protests, demonstrations, etc. Can they do that in China? No, as there are no per se other party than the official one. Mostly because the huge majority of Chinese do not care about politics. They're too busy trying to survive. There are demonstrations, protests, rallys, et al though. Much like anywhere else, they have to be "cleared" by local authorities. And granted, there are probably much fewer authorizations being given than in the US. China is NOT a democracy, nor do I think its citizens aspire to have it become one. You're evading Willard's point, which is an obvious one.

lawrocket 3 #53 March 26, 2007 I have very little problem with "time, place and manner" restrictions on speech because these are content-neutral restrictions. That is, these restrictions on speech are applicable to anyone and any political point of view. Wanna hold a pro-war "Kill In?" Okay, go ahead, so long long as your activities will not significantly interfere with the rights of others. Wanna have a "Beat In?" where you celebrate the wonder of baby seal fur? Heck, go for it, so long as you are not interfering with others' rights to do things like, oh, get to work. What I have problems with are "content-based" restrictions that restrict a certain viewpoint. This is not an example of how it occurred. We know it is not content-based because, damn, it happened in SF. My wife is hotter than your wife.
