Salvage?

Recommended Posts

A container ship is aground off the coast of England and has spilled high value goods.

The good people have been 'helping' to clean up the beach by walking off with BMW mototcycles, car parts etc.....

People think that salvage gives them the right to all of trhis stuff but the rule of law says that you cann't keep the stuff that you have tidied so some folk could be in a load of trouble.

I sort of remember an old English movie about a shipwreck.
That ship did not carry useless stuff though.
It was loaded with whisky.:)

Prolly more like Rum;)

"Whisky Galore" or "Tight Little Island", depending on where it was released. Written by Compton Mackenzie. Very good book and movie.

It was back in the days that most of Scotlands single malt output was being shipped to America to pay off the war debt so the poor scots didn't have any for themselves - until the ship ran aground that isB|

Not so, so long as you fill out the correct paperwork and declare to the Maritime and Coastguard Agency's Receiver of Wrecks your salvage then you have a good chance of keeping the gear. If the owner wants it back then they have to pay you for it, depending on the amount of risk involved in its recovery depends on what they pay. For big companies that have insurance like BMW it is easier for them just to write it off and let you keep it. As far as i'm concerned this is just the Devon people carring on a long tradition of their cultural heritage. Good luck to them, wish I had been ale to be there to get a free BMW bike too!
