Christian Skydivers Fellowship

Recommended Posts

Greetings all,

I guess the purpose of this post is really to ask for fellowship with other christian skydivers...where ever you may be.

For the most part, I would consider myself a christian; if it wasn't for the way i conduct myself sometimes - I would feel 100%. Although, that conversation could be more for the bonfire forum.

Anyway, it seems to me that sometimes the conversation/action on the dropzone is not always beneficial to our spiritial growth or interactions with each other.

And yes, I am a part of the problem as well. I feel maybe it was time I tried to change a little.

I just want to open up some interaction on this topic to see what flows.

As a goal - I guess it would be nice to find other skydivers to pray with once in a while on a drop zone, and not feel out of place - you know what I mean.

May the Lord Bless this word.

What's to change? Just worry about your "side of the street" and let the rest take care of itself. I do not let me spiritual beliefs get in the way of interacting with people.

It's called: "Acceptance"
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

Cannot you just pray by yourself? I mean, that thing of praying together and doing it in the dropzone, unless you are having problems with your reserve i think is just a way to alienate others.

Ron Schott (and his desk) used to run a group called the Christian Skydivers Assocation, or the CSA, and last I heard they had an online presence (website). A search here or on google groups (rec.skydiving) would probably be a decent start.

Sorry, but I just don't see how a comment like this does anything to help answer the user's thread. To me, a statement like this is trying to get the Christian to change...what good does it serve asking a Christian who wants to find others to pray with..."Cannot you just pray by yourself?"

And why do you have to bring such a statement of mockery?

I am amazed that people want Christians to "leave them alone"---yet they are often the ones who continually HAVE to say something when a Christian talks, posts, etc. Why can't THEY leave the Christians alone? :S

And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

I doubt that a group of skydivers who are praying together would be doing so just to alienate others; they would most likely welcome anyone who wanted to join them.

If you saw a group of people doing yoga together at the dz, would you think that they were doing it just to alienate others?

Those I have seen practicing yoga at the DZ tend to focus on the fitness aspect, and often completely ignore the religious aspect. I've met a few yoga instructors that I would certainly not consider Hindu.

I new it wasn't going to be long before brother matthew was brought into our conversation. I take that to heart, because I feel it doesn't really apply to this conversation; Here is why:
I believe it is speaking more toward those types of people who are on street corners preaching. This was done so because in the times of the bible, or biblical times if you will - some people would profess to be christian and preach on the corner, only to curry favour OR mostly to elevate their social status. In those times, social status was held as number one. So I feel what Matthew is telling us is not to be like that. To be inward in our faith, but outward in fellowship with others (one must read all of matthew and the bible) not to use it in order to gain status....because we will get our reward in gods time, not ours. You see if we took every thing in the bible literal, woman would not be able to talk in church or vote or own land....now we know that isn't right, but during that time it was.

If we took matthew 5 literal - there would be no need for churches - can you see the contridiction in literal translation.

IN the same passage, matthew tells us not to "babble on like the pagans do" - LOL sorry matthew I have just done this.

Understand, I have reached out for fellowship; please do not cut my arm off, just because you do not want to hold it.

The content of my original post was asking for friends and fellowship - I am sorry if it appeared to some as an invitation to a religious debate.

Remember - there is the "intention of christ and the "institution" of christ. If you are looking at any religion in regards to institution - it should fail.

Maybe they had something there. ;) I blame California for these liberal ideas.

They could still smoke in their own homes if people had exercised some control. :)

Bollocks. Just because that's how things were done doesn't mean it was ever 'right'.

Anyway, good luck finding a group, as long as you're not evangelising or going round telling people you'll pray for them I don't see why anyone would have a problem with it.:)

Or, it could indicate that the Church (the organization) and the church (the building) aren't really in line with the teachings of Christ.

So, who decides which of Jesus' teachings are to be taken literally, and which are metaphorical and subjective?

Like I said, this is SC. Please don't take the debate personally. Despite the often heated debates, we're just a big dysfunctional family. :)

Agreed. I think that is one of the things JC was trying to point out in his speech in Matthew.
