The omission is inadvertent, said... a spokeswoman for the Department of Education, which administers the grants. Scientists who knew about the omission also said they found the clerical explanation unconvincing, given the furor over challenges by the religious right to the teaching of evolution in public schools. “It’s just awfully coincidental,” said Steven W. Rissing, an evolutionary biologist at Ohio State University. “Removing that one major is not going to make the nation stupid, but if this really was removed, specifically removed, then I see it as part of a pattern to put ideology over knowledge. And, especially in the Department of Education, that should be abhorred.”
unformed 0 #2 August 25, 2006 Good. The poor and downtrodden are already being screwed in this life by society. Then people want to teach them things that will screw them in the afterlife. It's about time the government takes our afterlives seriously. Simply because the poor often are unable to receive the religious education they deserve doesn't mean we should forget about them. I have a dream. A dream when one day evolution will be regarded as what it truly is. Hogwash designed to pull people away from God.This ad space for sale. Whatever the worst is that you think in your tiniest inside voice, he comes out and says it Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

wildWilly 0 #6 August 25, 2006 If believing that makes you feel better then good for you. A religious education costs the same for the poor or the rich. It's free, just go to church. The government has no place in our AFTER life. I to have a dream. A dream that one day the people of this world can put aside all this religious biggotry and live for the betterment of all people. Willygrowing old is inevitable, growing up is optional.
