llharrington 0 #1 October 31, 2007 I have been unable to skydive for a couple of years b/c of increasing pain and loss of mobility due to developmental hip dysplasia. I'm scheduled to have my right hip replaced in February. I desperately miss skydiving and am hoping I will be able to skydive again after having the hip replaced, but my doctor doesn't seem positive. Does anyone have experience with this? How problematic is skydiving with an artificial hip? I'd appreciate any insights/advice.
DFWAJG 4 #2 October 31, 2007 you should be able to do anything with an artificial hip. You'll likely be more mobile than you are now. But then again, I'm just a shrink.

llharrington 0 #4 October 31, 2007 That's great news! Thanks. I just don't think my docs know much about skydiving so they fear it.

bozo 0 #6 October 31, 2007 QuoteSend a PM to bozo. He's got quite a few jumps on his new hip. Ive got a complete right hip replacement. I jump quite regularly on it. My Dr. is totally against this though because of the chance of it coming loose. To counter this I gave up standup landings as the jarring will most certainly lead to early failure of the hip. Its not a big deal, as a former Tandem Instructor I did hundreds and hundreds of slide-in landings. I gave it four months after the surgery four years ago. If its any help...I had a very good friend that had two hip replacements.....she did 4500 jumps in a little over four years. Good luck. bozo Pain is fleeting. Glory lasts forever. Chicks dig scars. He skydives regularly and has BASE jumped in the USA and at Kjerag walking in at least twice. Another guy I know ruined his hip replacement by over-doing it too early after the surgery not giving it time to properly seat itself in.
