Nearly ran over by two F-16's

Recommended Posts

I was nearly run over by 2 F-16 fighters today. I was flying along at 3k feet over North Georgia under the foggles (simulated IFR) when I heard my safety pilot say "Look at that". Two fighters at my 3 o'clock 500 ft above me and going fast. They passed less than 1000 ft in front of me.
Can you say wake turbulence boys and girls, I know you can.

Chances are they were "targeting" you for practice.. I used to fly through the Gladden and Bagdhad MOA's out west of PHX(near Luke AFB - the primary F16 training ground) all the time, and often saw things like that.. Every now and then they would ask if they could do a practice intercept.. Nothing like seeing an F16 show up on each side of the nose, 100ft away, and see 'em both flip you a middle finger(which I always returned, of course) then breaking high and away..

"youd be amazed at just how often cars among others are targeted for practice"
Hell, that used to be my job. We would just go out somewhere in town and pick out buildings, cars, people, and whatever else made a good target. The scary one was in Korea one day. I was working with some "Block 40" F-16's. Deep attack models with the high speed targeting pod. I was working them in on a gas station when the Jackass calls "Laser on" I was like..."WTFO?" Laser On? I had images of 50 newly blind Korean citizens stumbling around in the parking lot. Then this guy tries to tell me "Oh it's just a training laser" Bullshit! I sent those idiots the hell outta my airspace.
Dutchboy, be careful out there. About a year ago near Tampa, Fla. there was a case of an F-16 descending through a C-172. The F-16 pilot ejected safely but the private pilot burned in with his aircraft. Then there was the crop duster out in WA state in 92-93 that got cut in half by an A-6 Intruder/Gondola cutter doing NAP of the earth out over the wheat fields. They aren't always paying very good attention to where they are going.

Last month a tiny KR-2 homebuilt airplane was intercepted near Point Roberts, Washington and "escorted" out of American airspace.
This occurred shortly after September 11 and the USAF was a little nervous!
I heard the story first-hand from a pilot who is based in Pitt Meadows, at the end of the same row of hangars occupied by Pacific Skydivers.
