Umm....maybe a show of support for a neighbor? I don't think we have to go down the road of "them" and "us". She is a good singer even though I don't like all her work. And it's a beautiful song. It's not our National Anthem so why should anyone be offended?
SkySlut 0 #3 January 27, 2003 just found it quite amusing...aparently our talent pool in the US is pretty poor...I guess N' Synch or the Backstreet boys were busy.
dave610 0 #4 January 27, 2003 QuoteIt's not our National Anthem so why should anyone be offended? The Dixie Chicks definately did our National Anthem justice. Very Good Job. I did not like Celin Dion singing at all, where ever she is from didnt matter. She tried to make God Bless America sound like the Titanic song, make me gag. AndyMan 7 #5 January 27, 2003 QuoteAnybody else find it amusing that Celine Deione sang that song??? I live with some Canadians and they were even offended. Terrible. Not in the slightest. Why should we Canadians be ashamed? Me, I'm proud, actually. She first sang that at a post-september 11 fund raiser, and pretty much the entire world was shocked at the power of the song when she sang it. I think she took that song to an entirely different level then I've ever heard it before. And no, I don't generally like Celine, nor do I generally like overly patriotic songs either. Notwithstanding, when she sang that song, I was captivated. What was disapointing was when she sang at half-time, she was clearly lip-synching. There was a time where she wandered into the crowd, her lips stopped moving but the song didn't... kinda funny. I will give her the benefit of the doubt, that after singing God Bless America like she did, her voice might need a rest. I did find it humous, that of the 4 performers at the superbowl, only the Dixie Chicks were US native born. Celine, Sting, and I think No Doubt is British, aren't they? I see that as an indication of either how global US culture is, or how they suck the culture out of other countries. There might be an interesting debate in there, somewhere. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Too bad they stuck with the accompanyment.... _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Too much beer yesterday, and no coffee yet this morning. Ok, Shania had NO excuse for lip-synching. And that dress was friggin rediculous. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. wmw999 2,343 #10 January 27, 2003 WTF not? I know the Brazilian national anthem, and often sing it. It's a song. A symbolic one, but a song nevertheless. If she makes it beautiful for people who find it meaningful, then great, everyone wins. Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

Last I heard, Canada was in America, just like Mexico and Honduras and Chile. Maybe it was the quality of the ?singing?... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
