As far as the poll goes, I have a tiny stud in my nostril. I would get a ring but I think the stud is more descrete and professional. I just got a job as an engineer at Lockheed Martin with my stud so I don't see it as a problem professionally. The snot thing is not true at all in my experience. And it doesn't create extra snot or get caught on it or anything like that. I've had mine for a couple years and hardly even think about it or notice it anymore.
