Questions about DRX and Skyhook

Recommended Posts

I have a micron with a skyhook and two cut aways with it so I know pretty much how the skyhook works what I want to know is how much difference is the DRX from mirage, I know it was dicussed here somewhere I just could not find it.

Also

I checked the Mirage website just looking for how much are they charging for the DRX option and could not find it either, do they still offer the DRX??

Looking to put together my fiancee second rig just getting a feel for the options out there, I love my micron and I love my skyhook, just to make that clear! but the M series from UPT is not much our like besides the skyhook option in all she can get a regular RSL will do too.

I remember some advertizing in Parachutist they have some frame by frame pictures on the test they performed in their website, maybe I'm wrong all together!

No, I think you're correct about all that, it's just that they never actually put it into production. Might have been an issue with the TSO, or needing to re-certify something, or even a copyright deal with UPT.

Last thing I heard was that Mirage decided that they need custom-made hardware and are waiting for new hardware before they resume drop-testing DRX.

Hopefully Mirage will tell us about the latest DRX developments during the PIA Symposium, in February.

I recall something about them having been licensed to use skyhook technology from UPT, but I don't know if that was just talk.

FWIW, I was planning on buying a new rig a couple years ago, and Mirage was going to be releasing the DRX 'anytime now'... :D

I don't know any of the particulars with this but I don't believe it would be required if the system is different. There are other patents out there for systems that do the same thing and IMO are simpler. For instance the Interlock system by Eric Fradet. If you look at his patent, it doesn't require any special hardware and is made of readily available components and appears to be cheap to manufacture.
