Band1t 0 #1 March 23, 2004 Anyone know anymore information about this? Media doesn't say if he was a skydiver or even wearing a rig? MAN WHO JUMPED FROM AIRPLANE IDENTIFIED The Capital-Journal Authorities today identified a man killed in an apparent suicide Monday afternoon after he jumped from a small airplane in eastern Geary County. Sheriff Jim Jensen said Scott Marshall, 31, of Manhattan, was in an airplane flying at an elevation of about 2,500 feet when he jumped from the plane, which had taken off from Manhattan Regional Aiport. Marshall was one of three people inside in the plane, although authorities said they weren't releasing information about whether the other two occupants knew about the jump. An autopsy is scheduled for today, Jensen said. Geary County authorities learned from Riley County police at about 2:15 p.m. that someone may have committed suicide by jumping above the area of Humboldt Creek Road, south of Interstate 70. Authorities from Geary County, Riley County and the Kansas Highway Patrol then began their search using fixed-wing aircraft, global positioning equipment and a highway patrol helicopter. Marshall was found at about 4:30 p.m. near Humboldt Creek and Schmedemann roads. ksjumper 0 #3 March 24, 2004 This was definitely not skydiving related eventhough the word "jumped" is used in many of the news stories I have seen or read. The authorities are not saying much about the circumstances that led up to this person exiting a plane in flight although they speculate suicide. After a couple of tense hours of information gathering I was relieved it was not "bandit" jump gone bad. Thoughts and prayers go out to the individual who's life was lost and to his family.
